Full Length Reaction Guide
We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync. Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen. Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0. Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:
Use a dual monitor PC setup to watch both screens simultaneously
Use the split screen functions on your computer/phone to watch them side by side
Chromecast / Screenshare one screen to your TV while watching the other screen on a phone or laptop
HDMI your laptop / tablet to the TV and use the TV as a 2nd monitor (not mirror display)
Use your Smart TV or Gaming console to play the YouTube reaction and your Phone/Laptop to play the show (or other way around)
Use Google chromes picture in picture mode to overlay your own copy of the show over our reaction in a smaller window size (Link to the extension here: ( https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/picture-in-picture-extens/hkgfoiooedgoejojocmhlaklaeopbecg?hl=en )

Love,
Spartan & Pudgey ❤️
Rick is such a well written television protagonist. I am a bit biased, but he has to be up for one of the best characters in t.v history. I love how in depth you talk about him and his development. You will really enjoy watching his character develop, the actor himself (Andrew Lincoln) displays so many emotions with just his facial expressions and eyes perfectly. You will continue to feel the emotions & conflict through the smallest details through Rick as a character. I cannot imagine any other person playing Rick Grimes, it sounds a bit cringe but he was made to play Rick. As you will hear from many others, it only goes up from here. AND the feeling you are having right now ending season 2, is the tip of the iceberg for what's to come. Enjoyed watching this with you!

Pudgey, Lori didn’t ask Rick to kill Shane. I think other commenters already mentioned that the shows’ writers confirmed this. Also, I’m not sure how Lori needed to “redeem” herself with Shane. I’m hoping since Shane is gone you don’t keep trying to justify why you liked you him so much (even though the show gave us plenty of reasons to believe he was not a very good person) but instead just move on and let it go. Spartan has the right idea. I’d follow his lead on this

I'm going to try and not be to harsh about but as a survivor of sexual assault you can't just blow past that. Like the I get it the apocalypse has started but it's been less than 6 months. It's not like you can use the excuse that he's starved for a womans touch. He sexually assaulted the woman he claims to love and when he realized that she was going to go back to her husband, killed someone to lure him out and then kill him. Like guys....guys...I love you but thats not even me mentioning Otis. Cause in a way I get Otis more than anything else that happened.

It’s so fun watching you guys react. I live in Atlanta where TWD was filmed. A local bar would play the episodes live when they aired. It was always packed in there and everyone would be shouting and cheering together. Watching you guys reminded me of that. ❤️

I actually liked you rooting for Shane so much, it really gave you maximum impact of his ultimate fall.
I will say though it's easy to point this out in hindsight you sort of explained away some pretty strong signals the show was sending that he was indeed falling. It was pretty early on where he literally sited Rick down and was obviously considering killing him right then. I mean that's pretty intense and not normal. Likewise killing Otis the way he did, if that was Rick he would've let Otis take the stuff back and distracted the Walkers and risked his own life, at least give them both a chance. Shane was determined to save Carl but he was also determined to do the thing that gave himself the best chance of surviving. Then of course the assault on Lori etc.
You hammered Lori and Rick for the little things they did to Shane but really went out of your way to excuse the pretty intense things Shane kept doing more and more of. I get it though, you liked him and rooted for him. Certainly plenty of characters have redemption arcs and you were betting on that, just lost that bet.
If you rewatch this you'll see how obvious it was, how the show tries to really give you a strong message without fully guaranteeing it.
Either way I'm glad you stuck to this since it made the impact so powerful. Shane's story was a tragedy IMHO. With Rick gone in this situation he got everything he ever wanted. A woman he loved, an adopted son, people who looked to him is the leader vs Rick. When Rick came back he ruined all that, destroyed Shane's life and he just saw it spiraling from there. Despite his insanity and dark side there is a lot to feel sympathetic too, if Rick never came back he might have gone a different path. It wasn't Rick's fault, just Shane couldn't have what he truly wanted with Rick there. In the end Shane was a loaded gun that was either going to go off or need to be dealt with.
The silver lining is with the fall of Shane you had the rise of Rick figuring things out, still being a good human being while being smarter about surviving and you have Daryl and Glen stepping up.

Spartan what you say at 5:00 is exactly how I looked at the situation. A super dark and twisted way for Shane to do it, but it was a "test" in his own way...because yes he could have killed Rick 100 times over in those woods and WHY did he bring him back to the farm to do it? Why would Shane want to kill Rick right there beside the farm? Like you said, he was thinking "If you really will do whatever it takes to protect your family Rick then shoot me right now"

This show truly has the most cringe things when it comes to firearms lol. Backward scopes, infinite ammo, no iron sights, Glenn carrying the shotgun in the truck with the barrel upward instead of pointed at the floorboard, Maglites as suppressors, you name it.

Epic season finale thanks for a great reaction you guys!
One interesting thing to keep in mind about Rick and Shane: Shane accused Rick of going off on adventures and leaving the group at risk making Shane have to save the group and Rick’s family for him. In the end, it was Shane’s selfish obsession that caused him to set up the Randall situation in order to draw Rick out, in the end it was Shane that brought the herd in and destroyed the group’s safety worse than ever.
Shane had lost lost all morality at this point. He crippled Otis to save his own life and left him to die. Dale caught him considering killing Rick in the woods behind his back. He killed Randall in cold blood to set up a majorly pre-meditated murder against his own best friend in order to steal his family and life. All humanity was gone from Shane at this point. Even Rick slowly letting him know that he figured out what Shane was up to wasn’t enough to shame him back to his senses.
Who is the mystery person?? Armless walkers with no jaws to bite… pretty smart for moving around these days I’d say.
See you for season 3!

I think I personally interpret Shane telling Rick to raise his gun as him giving himself an excuse to commit murder. If Rick shoots at him, he has the ability to not feel as guilty about shooting an unarmed man and cope with it as defense. It’s why Rick told Shane that he knows him and he won’t be able to live with this (killing an unarmed man/his best friend).

Season 2 is awesome! Great reactions/discussions as always <3 I find Rick's character development this season so interesting. I would love to hear more of your thoughts on how Rick is struggling to be father and how his and Carl's relationship is changing. I'll share some of my thoughts below.
In the first part of season 2, there is a lot of focus on Rick trying to be a caring father for Carl while he is injured. There is also a lot of focus on Rick trying to prove both to himself and to his son that one should always do the moral thing. For example to keep looking for Sophia even though there is little hope of finding her. Rick also tries to teach his son that you should show respect to other people. For example by accepting Hershel's rules, as it is his farm. This is in contrast to Carl's other father figure, Shane, who does not respect Hershel and his rules, as he thinks it would only get them killed in the long run.
And then, after Rick shoots Sophia, it feels like there is big a shift in Rick's character. Rick basically admits to himself that it was wrong all along to keep looking for Sophia and that respecting Hershel's ways (not killing walkers etc) will only get you killed in this world. In other words, Rick admits to himself that Shane was right all along in many ways. Basically that the right choice is always the choice that keeps yourself and the ones closest to you alive, including "kill rather than be killed" if the situation requires it. In the following episode, we get to see how Rick struggles a lot though with being this kind of man in front of his son. I'm thinking of the scene where Rick is about to execute Randall and Carl shows up and says "do it dad".
Towards the end of the season, Rick tells Carl "no more kids' stuff" and basically that he needs his boy to become a man sooner rather than later. So it is not that strange that Carl went out looking for Rick and Shane because that is what Rick (and Shane) would do. And then, Carl sees Rick in one of his weakest moments after he has just killed his best friend. Carl then points the gun at his father and then shoots walker-Shane. Yeah this is definitely not something a child should ever experience haha. But the thing I find so fascinating in that whole scene is that you really see in Rick's face (great actor Andrew Lincoln) that he's just struggling with questions like: What kind of a man have I become? What kind of a father have i become?
And at the end scene of this season, Rick is accepting who he has become and what he did in front of everybody. Even in front of his son. So yeah, Rick changed a lot this season.
See you in season 3!

Rick may have said this isn't a democracy but he's still more of a diplomat than Shane ever exemplified. Rick cares about what the group thinks, he's just willing to shut them down in order to save their lives. He's not impulsive, yet he still adapts to situations quickly. He has to. I don't believe Shane would've waited for anyone at the highway, he woulda just stayed w/ Lori & Carl and left everyone; come up with a lie about Rick being bit. Had he been challenged as sole leader, he would threaten (or worse) the folks who had doubts (like Carol & Maggie).

Rick's "ricktatorship" makes sense... first of all, man's had one hell of a night, dealing with Shane, then running away from walkers, getting everyone together. I think it's one of those cases where everyone clearly looks at Rick for answers, or for someone to blame, they put that responsibility on him to begin with, so it's his way of saying, I'm responsible for this group? Fine, but we do it my way.

Lori's reaction to hearing about Shane's death is bordering on insanity. As you mentioned, she was the one who egged Rick on to take care of him, hyping him up as a threat. Fair enough, we know he was now, but then Rick does the deed, and you're disgusted at him?
The F Lori? She can be extremely supportive of Rick but in this case she's coocoo puffs.
As for Rick and Shane being made for this world, I like to think of it as Rick having the potential but requiring adaptation, whereas Shane's factory settings were tailored for the apocalypse.

"It boggles my mind that so many comments are angry about how you feel about certain characters. The show is written in a way that so many characters are full of nuance. I honestly can’t believe how people can get so upset for you liking Shane." - This take that gets put in these comments all the time makes no sense to me. It's really not hard to see why Shane is such a divisive character that a lot of people have no time for. The shit Shane gets up to (sexual assault/infidelity/cold blooded murder) is incredibly triggering to a lot of people, and it really shouldn't be surprising not a lot of people are gonna like him for it.

"The argument can definitely be made that Lori is to blame for not keeping a closer eye on Carl" -It's not an "arguement" - she is a horrific mother. Carl has had utter free reign to run about the gaff whenever/where he wants, with literally no oversight. She never even thinks to look in on him, or notice he's been gone, apart from this one time shit hit the fan and she had no choice.

I’ve seen this a thousand times but for the first time noticed that the first line of the episode is from Andrea, “I’m going back for them.” From the one who gets left behind in the end. That’s brilliant.
S&P - you guys are awesome because you really talk through things and share your opinions. It boggles my mind that so many comments are angry about how you feel about certain characters. The show is written in a way that so many characters are full of nuance. I honestly can’t believe how people can get so upset for you liking Shane. It’s your opinion on a character in a story. And the Ricktatorship begins!
Sometimes the best thing you can do is follow, Sometimes you just need one person making the tough decisions. That person doesn't have to discuss and justify every move they make. And those following that person can dump the responsibility or blame of those choices on one person freeing themselves from the mental load that making those choices bring. This allows them to focus on the next task set for them. They become one unit and can more effectively survive.
I can see this being exactly what our group needs right now some focus and unity under a set hierarchy.

This episode sealed it for me with Lori. I was officially done her butt. To be clear S&P, she was upset about shane not just Carl. When she was comforting Rick she was referring to his anti democracy outburst not shane. She didnt know about shane until Rick told her just then. Rick and shane could have done better than Lori. Its hard to say this early because it could have been a spoiler but I felt that lori was a catalyst for all this. Shane and Rick are still responsible for their personal actions but Rick and shane deserved better than her. Ill never forgive how quickly she got over Rick in the beginning. Her husband and father to her child and a month or so later shes in the grass with his best friend. Its not all on her but it certainly is NOT all on shane. If youre rollin around in the jungle like that its because you WANT to

Well, he couldn’t allow unstable / crazy Shane to go back to the group. Regardless of how exhausted he felt internally dealing with him - If Shane’s willing to kill Rick then hardly anyone else is safe.
I’m sure the group crossed Rick’s mind - those people trust / rely on him. Ain’t no way Shane wouldn’t start sacrificing people who oppose him.

The Irony of you saying what you did about Shane and his twisted way of pushing Rick to where he needed to be, "paraphrasing" but that could've actually ended up in the script. Jon Bernthal actually tried to have his death reflect that; where Rick takes his gun and realize that it wasn't loaded.

Pudgy made an interesting comment & brilliant observation about how Rick kind of shifted the reason for killing Shane when he told the group vs in private with Lori. I think the group admission was Rick's version of Walter White claiming he did what he did for his family up until he actually admit the truth. It's a move people use for justification and to seem like it was an altruistic decision.

Let's GO! I was waiting for this episode to bring us all back together. What fans couldn't (or hopefully shouldn't) have explained is that Shane HAD to die for Rick to be reborn again - stronger and more cut throat. But Shane could never have developed the same level of humanity that Rick has, so longterm stability of the group would never have worked had Shane stayed alive and Rick died. Even fans who hate Shane know that Rick becomes a stronger leader because of Shane's influence.
Also a strong rallying point for the masses here: Lori hate activated. No matter how you split it here, her reaction was wrong. Even if what she was mad about was the fact that Carl is the one who took out Walker Shane, maybe watch your kid?!
I'm just pumped for you to dig into this next incarnation of the series! If you think it's been crazy so far, hold on to your butts!

I will say I think Spartan is starting to understand Rick’s character really well and better than most reactors at this point and I give him alot of credit for understanding that Rick’s motivations are way different than Shane’s regarding the Speech at the end of the episode. Pudgey on the other hand is still trying to justify Shane every chance she gets imo and in the discussion saying that Rick said “ he did it for her”, when in reality , he said “ I killed my best friend for you people, for Christ’s sake “ , that is not a manipulation in any way whatsoever. I also agree with Spartan about Rick being built for this world , Shane lost his mind 2 months into the apocalypse and I love him as a character but he’s just not even comparable to Rick when we say who’s more built for this world.

I am out of breath from this episode. So much going on. When Lori got the most upset was when Rick mentioned Carl put him down. Her demeanor changed after that. I feel for everyone this episode. Very sad we lost more people and the farm. I think Hershel said it had been in his family for several generations. The "we are all infected" reveal was something else. No matter how anyone dies, they will need to have a blow to the head to keep them from turning into a walker regardless of whether a walker gets to them first. The guy in the woods was pretty trippy with the two walkers. Definitely a new version of pet ownership. I think Rick was just going through so much like everyone else, but he also had just killed his partner and decided to "lay down the law" to give some direction. I do believe he did it for himself and his family, but also for the rest of the group with Shane. I feel the most for Carl. He is the only kid left and only 10 years old. Very hard. I am sorry Hershel, this is not a resurrection of the dead by God. I hope Andrea is ok although she could be a bit annoying, I still liked her. I understand what you all were saying at the beginning of the reaction, in this fictional show, you like certain qualities that Shane's character had. I like the way you worded it Spartan, and I too was thinking in the last week, no I do not like some of the things Shane did, especially how he tried to rape Lori and of course kill Rick, but it is a fictional show and Shane would not be anyone we would call a friend irl.

Rick cares for the group. Shane cared for himself. That's a huge difference.

I have been watching you guys since way back in the GOT era, and you do tend to gravitate towards certain characters, which is fine. However, it usually results in whenever another character is upset with the character you like, you tend to have disgusted reactions toward them. It happened a bit with Shane and now he's dead, it's happening with Rick. Lori had every right to be upset in that moment and Carol's perspective also makes perfect sense. Really no one was in the wrong in this episode even if they are against your favorite.

Im sure they will find out about the walkers by watching the show, they dont need to have the definitive conclusive answer thrown at them in the comments? So why conclude it?

Nah sorry. Even from the most neutral of perspectives, the guy who tried to rape his best friend's wife and considered killing him when he thought no one was looking so he could steal his family, is the bad guy.
A person who does those things is a bad person.
This is not a retroactive judgement. No part of this was ever defensible.

Guys I think you’re forgetting that Lori has been lied to multiple times from Shane and Rick , so I think she felt betrayed by Shane after the big apology + she was the one that didn’t want Carl to have a gun and in the end he killed someone that he loved which a child shouldn’t go through at all . Carl escaping to the woods was Ricks fault !! , he was talking to him before Carl went to the woods
I don’t get the Lori hate tbh feels similar to the Skyler hate from breaking bad

Lori never told Rick to kill Shane.... she was warning Rick that Shane might try to kill him. Lori was first upset because she realized the way that her conversation with Shane affected him and why he led Rick out to kill him.... she blames herself.... she is mad at Rick because of 'Carl put him down'. The way it sounded was cold and like it was no big deal for little Carl to be in that situation.

Earlier in the season Lori wasn't telling Rick to kill Shane, she was warning him to watch his back around Shane. When Rick tells Lori that he killed Shane, naturally she's shocked and upset but it turns to anger when he reveals that Carl was the one that put Shane down. The argument can definitely be made that Lori is to blame for not keeping a closer eye on Carl but at the end of the day, Rick chose to wait for Shane to turn instead of just dealing with it then and there. Also I don't think Carl was pointing his gun at Rick in the last episode. I think Carl pulled the gun when he saw Shane start to reanimate on the ground but we only saw him after he stood up. It was to make us think that Carl was going to shoot Rick for a second before revealing he was actually pointing it at Shane.

Last time im mentioning Shane. He obviously was jealous of Rick and wanted what he had (family). He would have left Rick on that bus to die no doubt. He even said to Rick "we almost killed each other, what we just gonna forget".

Shane is a classically tragic character, in the sense that the seeds of his ruin were planted long before the story began, and that his downfall was inevitable.
To me it's obvious that he covetted his best friend's family (even if on a subconscious level) long before the apocalypse. That is the fundamental tragedy of the situation, that's what elevates their relationship to the level of Shakespearean characters like Othello and Iago. The apocalypse was merely the catalyst that enabled the tragedy to unfold.
The belief that Shane just suddenly tuned into his newfound insta-family overnight and that pressures of that situation alone (Rick's return, Lori's rejection, Carl's near death, etc) drove him to evil is misplaced.
No, the seeds of evil were planted in Shane's heart long ago and they started with the sins of covetting and envy. He wanted what Rick had, consciously or unconsciously, long before the world went to shit. It's obvious in his behavior toward them and his sense of entitlement. And his belief that he is the best person to protect... his best friend's family, and the right person for them.
Covetting and Envy. Those are Shane's orignal sins, and those are the things that set him on an inevitable path to self-destruction. In that sense, there is not a single thing anyone could have done to save him for a simple reason: in the Shakespearen tradition, him doom was pre-ordained by his own flaws.
