He has obviously gotten the offer for the new job, which is a promotion at a different branch (easy to miss that detail from last episode - it was only shown on Dwight’s computer screen), so why not advance in his career, make more $? His love for Pam is the only reason he is in Scranton. Also it would be painful for him to stay in Scranton with the woman he loves sitting 10 feet away married to a man like Roy. So he has to give it one last shot, lay it all on the line, and see if Pam has the same feelings for him before can decide to leave Scranton/Pam for a new job.
