Love that you guys are reacting to this, sad that I didn't join Patreon/see this earlier! A couple of things I noticed that I didn't before.... that first scene with Chadwick Boseman/Jackie Robinson where he's playing in Birmingham, Alabama... that might be at Rickwood Field... historic stadium for black ballplayers at the time, there's a whole podcast about it, and the SF Giants and St. Louis Cardinals played a throwback game there last season (Willie Mays, one of the greats, used to play on that field for the Birmingham Black Barons before they integrated and he played for the New York Giants, and then moved with them over to SF. Also, noticed Mr. Rickey mention Jackie Robinson's military career/record when he is looking at whether to call up Jackie Robinson.. Trump, when he came back into power, has been trying to erase Black history/American history, including trying to remove Jackie Robinson's name and military record/career from the Department of Defense and their website, but there was a backlash, so he did a u-turn... they tried it, though.

Another very difficult but incredible watch about a dark era of American history would be "12 Years a Slave". The most accurate yet brutal and heart wrenching depiction of slavery in the south ever put to screen.

I know you usually stick to sports movies but I was going to ask in memory of the actor who played Jackie Robinson in this movie Chadwick Bozeman who also played Black panther if you could watch his movie"get on up" He also played James Brown and he played it in that movie get on up he also played thurgood Marshall He's done a lot of historians and he does great with getting each of their characteristics down and I would love it if you guys could ever do that and he passed away a few years ago but yes he's also Black panther

Fantastic reaction. My favorite baseball movie of all time. I can’t remember another case where they play the entire Star Spangled Banner within a movie. The symbolism and imagery during that scene was incredible. Your comments and observations were on point and I’m glad that you got to experience this film. Well done.

players used to hold two bats in the on-deck circle as a very primitive form of resistance training. It’s a way to make the bat feel lighter when you’re in the batters box. These days they’ve invented the donut weights that fit on a single bat, so you rarely see it anymore.

I've never watched this movie, but obviously, it's an amazing story. A couple things that are interesting side-notes: Jackie's brother, Mack, was the silver medalist in the 200M at the 1936 Olympics, finishing just behind Jesse Owens. And if you've ever watched the show Band of Brothers, or in case you ever do in the future, one of the soldiers depicted in that show - Buck Compton - was a college teammate of Jackie's at UCLA.

You guys should check out some content about Doug Williams. He was the first black QB to win the Super Bowl, and at a time when it was still a common belief that black men lacked the intelligence to play the position.
