-- King's Landing: The episode picks up from the *exact moment* the last one ended, and we are immediately back with Cersei cradling Joffrey's dead body and screeching for Tyrion to be taken into custody. She thinks of Sansa as an afterthought, but by then, Sansa and Dontos are running to the harbor. Tywin commands that the entire city be shut down, but Sansa manages to escape. When they arrive at their destination, a ship waiting nearby, she finds Littlefinger waiting. He promptly has Dontos killed and confesses to Sansa that he had been working for him for a while, and even that the necklace he had given her was a fake. Margaery and Olenna talk in the gardens about Margaery's circumstances, but even though she's not technically queen, Olenna seems to think she's actually in a better position than she would have been if Joffrey had survived. At Joffrey's wake, Tywin talks to Tommen about the qualities that are needed to make a king great by giving examples of previous kings (including Robert) who had certain presonality traits, but were all "failures" in Tywin's opinion. He ultimately impresses upon Tommen that the most important thing to remember is that no one has wisdom about *every* topic, so it's best to listen to your advisors and small council about things you don't have experience with. Much has been said about the Jaime and Cersei scene, so all I can say is - yes, it's very different than in the book, not sure what they were trying to accomplish with that, and yuck. Oberyn and Ellaria are back at the brothel when Tywin comes interrupts to ask if Oberyn will serve as a judge in Tyrion's trial (along with Mace Tyrell and Tywin himself) and also extends an invitation for Oberyn to be on the small council as well. Since everything Tywin does is calculated, this must all be for a reason, and most likely one that would benefit the Tywin's agenda in some way. Pod visits Tyrion in the dungeons and and lets him know all the news about the trial plus Sansa's disappearance. He also tells him that he was approached and offered some money and a title in exchange for giving a false testimony against Tyrion. Sensing impending danger, Tyrion insists that Pod get out of town so he won't have to face the fact that he got him killed as well, and they say their goodbyes. -- Riverlands: As the Hound and Arya are travelling, they end up coming across a random farmer who is loyal to House Tully and end up staying with him and his daughter. The farmer makes an offer of employment to the Hound, and he agrees. The next morning however, Arya wakes up to find that the Hound has robbed the man of all his silver, claiming he won't need it because he and his daughter will never survive the winter because they are "nice" people who are weak. -- The Wall: Sam is getting increasingly worried about Gilly surrounded by all the men at the Wall, many of whom who are rapists (and even those who aren't have been sentenced to a lifetime of celibacy against their will) - adding up to a dangerous situation. He comes up with an idea for her to go to Mole's Town and work as a maid/babysitter in the pub there. He tries to explain to her that she'll be safer there but she's so upset at being sent away she can't even look at him. Meanwhile, Tormund, Ygritte, and the rest of the wildlings (including the cannibalistic Thenns) in their group attack a village just south of the wall - they kill all of the villagers except for a young boy named Olly who they send to Castle Black to relay the message about what they've done. Grenn, Edd, and the other Night's Watch members who had been held hostage at Craster's Keep by Rast and Karl after the murder of the Lord Commander finally escape and make it back to the Wall as well. Jon becomes convinced that they should go North and get rid of the group of traitors before Mance gets his hands on them and finds out the truth about the real number of men they have at the Wall. -- Dragonstone: Stannis gets word of Joffrey's death and is now totally convinced that his three leeches in the fire are coming true - he's quickly losing patience with Ser Davos, who comes up with a new plan. He gets Shireen to write a letter the the Iron Bank of Braavos pretending to be Stannis. -- Meereen: Daenerys approaches the city, and they send out one man to engage in a one-on-one fight to the death. Daario acts as her champion and quickly kills the Meereenese champion. She then reveals her purpose to the onlooking residents of the city. She send barrels into the city that break open upon impact, spilling out all the collars worn by the former slaves who Dany has now freed. It is revealed that what we thought was a message to the masters was really a message to the slaves - there are more of you than them, you have the power to free yourselves, and we are here to show you how.

2026-01-03 03:12:26 +0000 UTCIt's important to note (and I'm surprised that none of the comments have mentioned this) but what happened between Jaime and Cersei in the Sept was not what happened in the book. It was consensual there; and while the directors attempt to claim that the audience misinterpreted the scene, it was clearly done for shock value as a lot of the SA in the show is unfortunately It was tough for me because it completely changed my opinion of Jaime (I had come around to him at this point as you have) and it was hard for me to get back to that until it was explained later on. You kinda have to pretend that scene didn't happen to enjoy him as a character for the rest of the show

2025-12-07 05:13:14 +0000 UTCJaime has been Cersei's only friend and emotional pillar for her entire life, besides her children. There is absolutely no way in hell she is "turned off" by Jaime missing a hand

2025-12-05 23:00:52 +0000 UTCwhen you edit the episode, you'll see exactly where Joffrey picks up the goblet from just before he begins choking from the poison

2025-12-05 20:25:40 +0000 UTCYeah it 100% was. Can’t imagine how anyone could think otherwise and try to justify that opinion.

2025-12-03 19:47:39 +0000 UTCI’m glad you guys saw the rape scene for what it was. At the time, the writer of the episode claimed that it was not meant to be seen as rape. But I think the majority of the audience could see that it clearly was.

2025-12-03 18:23:14 +0000 UTCI'm not sure if you're aware that the book series is currently unfinished. Having said that the book community is very active and has been speculating/theorising for over 10 years on what will happen next lol. If you both did a book club podcast... I'd watch/listen the shit out of that!

2025-12-03 18:21:52 +0000 UTCI definitely think Tywin does care about Myrcella. Not in a loving grandfatherly way but she is a princess and her marriage to a prominent house would be very important

2025-12-03 04:58:24 +0000 UTC"im not sure tywin would care about myrcella" he - during a time of peace - launched a siege onto riverrun and sent gregor to slaughter peasants across the riverlands in response to *tyrion* being captured. myrcella is a princess, and her safety is paramount to the crown's image of power.

2025-12-03 03:30:46 +0000 UTCoh haha, im the person who corrected you on meereen not being within the Free Cities when actually you said "three". ironically, i literally cannot say the word "three" out loud, i say it as "free".

2025-12-03 02:44:15 +0000 UTCthis is the episode where my support of Tormund and Ygritte is irreparably broken. they may have a just cause overall, but slaughtering villages of innocent peasants is just utterly evil.
