It is often mentioned that Britney Spears saved How I Met Your Mother. The show was not the biggest success at first and was somewhat threatened by cancellation. Britney Spears was a fan of the show and wanted to be on it. This was right around when she was a massive star and the ratings did go up after this episode. Without any spoilers, this is not the last big name that will appear in the show as a minor character so be on the lookout.

2025-12-30 20:36:52 +0000 UTCIn the season 3 premiere, Ted says his kids know the "short version" of how he met their mother: "you know, the thing with your mom's yellow umbrella". So the yellow umbrella mentioned there does belong to the mother, and is somehow important enough to how they met that by itself it works as the short version of the story. In the St. Patrick's Day episode, Ted says the mother was at that club that night, but he just didn't meet her. He then ends up taking a yellow umbrella that someone left at that club, and the obvious assumption is that it's the mother's umbrella that Ted has now, though the narrator hasn't said anything to confirm that.

2025-12-05 01:10:15 +0000 UTCThere was also the subtlety of Barney making a point about not knowing what you want in the future and 'do you know what you want for lunch 2 weeks from now', Marshall answered instantly, and in a later scene he offers Ted a piece of that exact meal. Also just love that scene of Barney and the fire I don't know why but everyone scolding him like a child was just too funny
