My favorite speech was Dany's speech at the gates of Mereen. "Those who were slaves in Astapor now stand behind me. Free." etc. It was really powerful and the way she ended it with the strong "Forward!" and the launch of the chains...great stuff. And she had to deliver it in another (made up) language! Super impressive. Favorite duo: Brienne and Pod. I think there's humor and heart there. Two honorable characters trying to do honorable things. Also, Davos and Shireen. TOO CUTE.

-- The Wall: Jon emerges from the other end of the tunnel (right where we left him last episode) and goes to find Mance in the forest nearby. Mance questions him about Ygritte and whether she switches allegiances at the end. We also find out that Mance sent a group of 400 men to climb an unmanned section of wall about 5 miles away. He tells Jon all he wants is to pass through unharmed. While they are talking, Stannis arrives with Davos and their army of sellswords they paid for with the money they got from the Iron Bank - Mance is taken prisoner. At Castle Black, they have a funeral pyre for all those who died during the battle; during the funeral, Davos, Stannis and his family look on, as well as Melisandre who is making googly eyes at Jon. After talking to Tormund, Jon takes Ygritte's body north of the wall and has a personal pyre just for her. -- King's Landing: Qyburn is working on the Mountain, trying to save him from the poison that was on Oberyn's blade. He warns that his methods will "change" the Mountain in some way, but not weaken him. Cersei tells Tywin she will not marry Loras and finally admits to him that the rumours of her and Jaime's relationship and her children's true parentage are all true. Before Tyrion is to be executed, Jaime breaks him out of the dungeons with Varys' help. Instead of going up the stairs to meet Varys like he's supposed to, Tyrion can't help but go off to confront his father. Instead, he finds Shae in his father's bed - they fight and he ends up strangling her to death. He finds his father in the privy and holds a crossbow pointed at him while he questions him about why he put him through this trial when he knows that Tyrion was never guilty. Tywin tries to lie his way out of it, but Tyrion has had enough - he has been emotionally broken down and destroyed, and ends up killing his father as well. Varys hides Tyrion away in a shipping box on a ship and is making his way back to the Red Keep, but when the bodies are discovered in the castle, he decides its safer for him to go along with Tyrion and leave King's Landing. -- Meereen: Daenerys is dealing with some difficult situations with the former slaves, some of whom are requesting to return to their previous masters. They feel that without their work, their lives now don't have any meaning or purpose. While she is seeing her supplicants, a shepherd comes in carrying something wrapped in a blanket, and Daenerys thinks Drogon has killed another sheep. As it turns out though, it is the bones of the shepherd's 3 year old daughter. Realizing her dragons are out of control, but having no idea where Drogon currently is, she decided to lock up Rhaegal and Viserion although it breaks her heart to do it. -- North of the Wall: Bran's group reaches the weirwood tree that he and Jojen have both been seeing in their visions. As they approach, some wights that were buried under the ice break free and attack them. Hodor is terrified and Bran has to warg into him to fight. As they are fighting, some Children of the Forest emerge from the tree and help them by throwing little orbs of fire at the wights - they tell them to run for the tree, where they'll be protected. Jojen is killed, but the rest make it there. Bran finally meets the Three Eyed Raven, and ancient man who tells Bran he has been watching all of them all of their lives and that Jojen knew he would die, but he chose to help Bran get there anyway. He also tells Bran he'll never walk again, but he will fly. -- The Vale: Brienne and Pod, planning to just ask for directions to the Eyrie, accidently stumble upon Arya and the Hound. Brienne tries to convince Arya to come with her, but she's not convinced, and the Hound is outright against it. He says he's the only one who can protect Arya. He and Brienne begin to fight - this has to be one of my favorite fight sequences in the whole show! It's so down and dirty and brutal. They are both injured, but the Hound takes a bad tumble off the edge of a cliff which does him in. Pod and Brienne run off trying to find Arya, who was hiding nearby. She comes back to talk to the Hound one last time and even though he begs to be put out of his misery, she leaves him to suffer. She rides off on her own and finds a ship heading for Braavos. She manages to barter passage on the ship by showing the captain the coin she got from Jaqen H'ghar and saying the phrase, "Valar Morghulis" to which he replies, "Valar Dohaeris." The season ends with Arya sailing off on her new adventure.

"Tywin Lannister did not, in the end, shit gold" (in the books, his constipation is more graphic and gross... there is actually a popular fan theory that oberyn poisoned him which is why he cant get himself to shit)

Finally getting to watch this one. I've been waiting with great anticipation for you two to get to this episode. Once again, never take anything or anyone for granted when it comes to Game of Thrones! Amazing reaction guys...I want to answer your questions and say so much but anything I would say would be spoilers 🀫🀫

"Lord Seaworth is a man of humble birth, but he reminded me of my duty, when all I could think of was my rights. I had the cart before the horse, Davos said. I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne." book dialogue that shouldve made it in imo.

Joe Brown

you are right about stannis being outnumbered by mance, but mance's army was likely not very organised (he made clear that it was hard enough just getting them all to agree to join the cause) and was not prepared to be attacked at their camp, as well as lacking things like horses and advanced armour. stannis ambushed them with an army of mounted armoured organised soldiers.

Joe Brown

you say "its the lannisters' debt" but its not. the debt belongs to the crown, not house lannister (if you recall, the crown is actually in debt to house lannister as well as to the iron bank of braavos). its not jaime's or the head of house lannister's responsibility now, its tommen's like it already was (or rather, whoever is managing tommen like tywin previously was). though the *managers* of house lannister and the crown were one and the same in tywin, the crown and house lannister are still separate entities. its the crown's debt, not house lannister's. also reminder that jaime cannot become the head of house lannister as long as he is in the kingsguard. the next in line for that position is tywin's brother, kevan (lancel's father iirc)... well technically tyrion is the next in line but hes obviously disowned and in exile now.

Joe Brown

A few things to consider. Ask yourselves, in what way does it benefit Cersei if she just randomly decides to be open and public about her and Jaime's incest? Think about what it is that Cersei actually wants and has wanted all along, and remember that she isn't dumb or reckless - she's probably the one Lannister child who is most like Tywin. Also, Tywin wanted the Tyrell's close by for a very good reason stated in previous episodes this season. Is Cersei the kind of woman who would be ignorant/blind of that, or is she smarter than that?

I think Tyrion and Tywin’s relationship is the one of the most heartbreaking and tragic father son relationship depicted on tv. It’s sad because Tywin is so obsessed with his legacy but his hatred for Tyrion blinds him to the fact that it’s Tyrion not Cersei or Jamie that has his political talent and would’ve been capable of being the lord of Casterly Rock.

Dana Sow

Hats off to Charles Dance for such an amazingly acted performance over these 4 seasons. His on screen presence made Tywin such a formidable villain but one you kept wanting to see (unlike Joffrey where you were just waiting for him to die so he would stop abusing people) because every time he spoke he commanded the scene. And even though he was a terrible person and that’s not up for debate especially with how he treated Tyrion, it’s still possible to respect his intelligence in terms of the β€œgame” (of thrones) he played for his family.

Welcome back Nick! Good to have you back in here. Hope you guys have an excellent holiday, merry Xmas and a great 2026...

They're distant cousins with Podricks family line being from the lesser branch than Ser Ilyn.

And now I am finally free to say that I never could stand Shae after Tyrion brought her to King's Landing. I always thought she was a low IQ pain in the butt who would never be anything but trouble to him. Although I did appreciate how she was protective of Sansa (before they made her marry Tyrion). Ironic that Tyrion told her over and over that his sister or his father would have her hanged, but in the end, it was him. Good riddance to her.

"Wake up Kings Landing!! It's midnight!!"

I totally forgot that Stannis was heading north to defend the wall against the Wildlings the first time I watched. It must be because so much is going on all over the place, because they made it pretty clear that's where they were headed during the last scene we saw with Stannis, Davos, and the witch.

SDSavvy

Yes, Pod is from the same family as the executioner.
