The movie Shutter Island came out two years after this episode aired. It’s called Shelter Island because they are literally on Shelter Island in this episode ;)

2026-01-27 20:31:06 +0000 UTCI didn’t see the twist here coming, but in retrospect, they certainly dropped some hints, such as someone still living in the apartment upstairs, the kids not being blonde, the fact that the show is “how I met your mother,” not “how I married your mother,” meaning the story would have ended with Ted going to get his tattoo removal done if Stella was the mother, and others.
