Gandalf spent 17 years in The Fellowship of the Ring doing research to find out if Bilbo's ring was the One Ring, so no he absolutely does not know that Bilbo has the One at this point

Joe Brown

it was actually Radagast who sent the eagle to save Gandalf from Saruman in The Fellowship of the Ring

Joe Brown

the sword, Glamdring, was made for King Turgon of Gondolin. he was killed when his kingdom fell to an onslaught on balrogs. all those many millennia later, Gandalf uses the same sword to kill a balrog in Moria. a bit poetic.

Joe Brown

you should definitely read the hobbit before reading the lord of the rings

Joe Brown

the bad blood between the elves and dwarves goes back many millennia prior to this, to when King Thingol (an ancient ancestor of Elrond) was slain by dwarves under his employ during the first age.

In a few hours 😊

Damon Richmond

when will we be able to see the 2nd movie ?

Riad Morina

We’ve both seen Sherlock. Loved it!

Damon Richmond

Hope you guys Like Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch! As soon as there's a poll for one of the TV show slots I'll definitely be suggesting the BBC Sherlock where they play Sherlock and Dr Watson! It seems to be having a bit of a resurgence amongst reactors atm!

The Hobbit was the first of the books later Tolkien wrote the LOTR Trilogy. They made the movies in reverse order. Hobbits are known for their appetite and the amount of food in Bilbo's pantry was very normal 😆 They stay stone forever and if you remember you say them 60 years later when Frodo passed by the same was and saw them. As for Bilbo's sword, yes that's Sting at the story of how it came into his possession...He passes it on to Frodo in LOTR. You're rught that a lot of stories and characters are added to the movies in order to stretch one book into 3 movies. As an example, one of the additions to the movie was Radagast's story. In the book Radagast is only mentioned one time and was described as Gandalf's cousin.

If this is annoying then I apologize lol. This is coming from a guy that has giant framed canvas map of Middle Earth on my wall that at least two live in girlfriends have failed to convince me to take off.

I don’t like being the resident nerd because someone else usually chimes in, but… These aren’t spoilers btw. Bilbos sword is Sting, the one he gives to Frodo in the LotR trilogy. You’re meant to know this. Hence the glowing blue and Frodo telling Gollum that he knows he remembers Sting. The trolls that were turned to stone are in Fellowship of the Ring after Frodo gets stabbed. Bilbo even has a scene during the party where he tells the hobbit children the story. Gandalf’s sword is Glamdring, nicknamed the Foehammer. It’s the sword we see him with during LotR. Once again not a spoiler, we are meant to know this. Gondolin and Gondor are not the same place. Gondolin is written about by Tolkien in my favorite book of all time, The Silmarillion, and was an ancient hidden city of Elves. So having a weapon crafted by the Elves of the First Age from Gondolin is no small thing. First Age elves were not as peaceful as the ones we see now lol. They were badass. There are two members of the party that have direct ties to Gimli. I don’t think this is a spoiler as we’ve heard the names in LotR. I’ll let you figure them out, though. And also this is kind of a meme thing because everyone asks it, but the giant eagles aren’t just animals. They have their own kingdom and king and language. The movies don’t show it but they can talk and all that. They just like to stay out of stuff.

Jonathon Moore

That explains it lol, thanks
