You're right about why Jay had a butter knife - but he was a kid imagining that the "commies" were coming for him. During the red scare of the time America believed that they were coming for us - I think of the kid from A Christmas Story. That kind of imagination running wild when I hear that little Jay was waiting for the communists to attack him in his sleep for his knowledge of planes.

2025-04-01 20:08:57 +0000 UTCLike I previously said with his brief appearance in the Christmas episode, the casting for Phil's dad is spot-on. They really look AND act like they're related, much like Frasier & Niles on 'Frasier' or Phoebe and her biological mum on 'Friends'. Hope the casting director got a raise for that find. A bit sad you cut out one of the greatest jokes: after Cam's 'switched drumsticks' prank Dylan (or one of his bandmates, I forget) saying 'Dude, you gotta start labelling those sticks'
