Some big picture stuff...after Market Garden failed (the Allies attempt to cross the Rhine through Holland), the Allies were basically holding position while figuring what their offensive strategy would be in the Spring of '45, but then Hitler launched the last ditch assault through the Ardennes Forest (previously thought impassable). That is when we see the 101st meeting this advance in the Bastogne and Breaking Point episodes, known globally as the "Battle of the Bulge". After stopping this offensive, the Germans were pretty much finished and were just fighting a defensive war at that point. All the Allies were racing to the river to try and secure a bridgehead before the Germans could blow them all up. This is depicted in the movie "The Bridge at Remagen". That's kind of where we are now in the series from a macro perspective.

2025-07-02 16:12:16 +0000 UTCAs a bit of additional info, the United States Military Academy (aka West Point) normally takes 4 years. During WW2 that timeline was sped up to 3 years. So you can imagine a brand new 2nd Lt out of West Point is going to be 21 when they graduate at this time.
