2025-06-21 21:49:50 +0000 UTCA paralegal works at a law firm and supports lawyers by doing research and prepping case files, among many other tasks but they aren't a lawyer. They do all of the background work so that the lawyers can argue the case to the best of their ability. Like how a paramedic or EMT or emergency room worker or nurse are all hospital jobs that require expertise without requiring an actual medical license. Marshall is in his final few years of law school on his way to becoming a lawyer, but he's yet to pass his state bar exam, which is what officially makes a person a lawyer in the US. Meaning the job that he got at Barney's company was yeah probably akin to temporary paralegal work with a path to a promotion once he passes the bar.
