Fun fact: Chelsea Peretti, who plays Gina, is married to Jordan Peele.

Yes, Citizen Kane is often cited as one of, if not the, greatest films ever made. I personally think it still holds up well to this day, but plenty of others don't. The thing is, it revolutionized so many things that we very much take for granted in modern film-making: Quick cuts, low angle shots, lighting, transitions, deep focus, non-linear narrative, etc. Cinematography techniques that are still studied as part of a "basics of film-making" 101 class at film school were created in Citizen Kane. A lot of modern-thinking folks who've maybe never studied film history might say they "don't understand" why Citizen Kane is considered a masterpiece. This is pretty common. Again, so many of its groundbreaking elements are just the generally-accepted basic components of how films are made these days, and many have even been surpassed by modern technology. But that's taking away from the context of Citizen Kane as a relic of its time that revolutionized the art of film-making for generations to come. This explains a lot about the dynamic between Charles and Rosa. Charles is an old-school romantic. The type who would take a date to a museum to view something like a Michelangelo sculpture or a Da Vinci painting. He's deeply sentimental. Rosa is the type who might consider that sort of material to be "stuffy" or "pretentious." Therefore, she's a person who might not appreciate the artistic merits of a film like Citizen Kane, because she'd rather watch something "fun," like a blockbuster with lots of explosions or a silly comedy. She's distinctly *not* sentimental. The episode is using Citizen Kane to show the differences in personality between Charles and Rosa. Rosa recognized the inherent incompatibility in those differences and *that's* why she gave Charles his money back.

Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa Diaz) also voiced Mirabel in Encanto and Vaggie in Hazbin Hotel. She was also in the musical In the Heights story and music by Lin Manuel Miranda. Also Andy Samburg (Jake Peralta) and Chelsea Peretti (Gina) were childhood friends and I believe they reunited later in life.

Yesss!!!!

I love this show, and excited for you guys to watch it. Btw, some fun little connections to other stuff you guys have watched that you might not know: This show was created by Michael Schur, who was a writer and producer on The Office, and also played Dwight's cousin Mose. Chelsea Peretti - who plays Gina - is married to Jordan Peele.
