I think the take away is that Michael understands who Ryan is but still believes in him like he believes in everyone at the Office. He told him he believed he would do the right thing and he had the 9 days... then he was relieved when Ryan did the right thing and sold to the University. Pam is no longer in sales. She is the Office Manager.
