Stella was a bit of artistic license by the production team. In Bob's book upon which this part is based he had several relationships while in Australia and Stella was a composite of his relationships. The different relationships between the Americans and Australian women were depicted in the episodes and there were indeed pregnancies. During the war it was estimated that over a million American servicemen were in Australia which resulted in relationships and marriages with Australian women. There were around 12,000 Australian women who became "war brides" and emigrated to the US after the war. Some estimates suggest that around 23,000 babies were born to single mothers in Australia during and immediately after the war, fathered by US service members.
