2025-08-20 01:36:06 +0000 UTCPeople saying Steve left because he wanted to pursue film roles are incorrect (though they're not too far off). What actually happened was that his contract was coming to an end and NBC didn't offer him anything. This might have been because there was a switch in leadership at the time, or because they assumed he'd want to go or that he'd be too expensive to keep.... regardless, he didn't get an offer so he left (though he was cool with it and there wasn't any animosity). Lots of interviews about this online.

2025-08-19 23:44:12 +0000 UTCSteve chose to leave because his contract was up and he wanted to pursue his movie career which was really taking off at this time. As for it not being the finale, NBC wanted to keep the story going and viewers invested in the series so as not to lose viewers over the summer. By extending the series and establishing a story line they felt the losses could be minimized. One final thought... DeAngelo was a failure and couldn't keep a job....then he got a job because he stopped someone from stealing a woman's dog. I've always wondered if it was Jo's dog....
