2025-09-10 23:09:10 +0000 UTCThe show had to cut the battle in the Whispering Wood for budget/time reasons but what happens offscreen is Robb lures Jaime and small force out of the larger camp. They have a small group of men raid Jaime's camp carrying Tully banners (Catelyn's father's house, who was being sieged by Jaime). They also had forward outriders taking out Jaime's scouts/ravens (like in this episode when Theon shot one down) so he wouldn't know that the Northern army crossed the Trident at the Twins. When Jaime and his cavalry go into the Whispering Wood Robb has multiple groupings of his forces (bolstered with even more men from the alliance with house Frey) on all sides inside the Wood. This completely traps Jaime who was expecting to have to deal with just a small group of Tully bannermen and basically Robb avoids having to fight all 30,000 men that Jaime was commanding, which would have been a bloodbath and would have depleted most of his forces if he was even able to win. From his verbal exchange with Jaime at the end of the episode it seems like he knows he has to use cunning to stand a chance against the far larger Lannister army.
