2025-09-30 23:32:13 +0000 UTCHarrenhal is the original seat of the lords of the Riverlands, yes. But you're mistaken in thinking that means that any current occupant of Harrenhal is automatically the lords of the Riverlands. Harrenhal has been occupied by seven families since Lord Harren and none of them were lords of the Riverlands. Remember the Whents? The most recent occupant of Harrenhal before the current war? Lord Whent held a great tourney at Harrenhal in the year of the false spring? Ring any bells? Lord Whent was never lord of all the Riverlands. (A title officially known as Lord Paramount of the Trident, which can only be granted by the Iron Throne, and bestowed upon the Tullys after Harren Hoare was defeated during the conquest.) The Whents existed as lords of Harrenhal but were still bannermen to the Tullys who were lords of the Riverlands after Aegon 1 and his conquest. The keep/land doesn't determine the ruler of the Riverlands. The King does. Could the Iron Throne name Lord Petyr Baelish the lord of Harrenhal and *also* Lord Paramount of the Trident, seeing as how the Tullys are currently in open rebellion? Yes, of course. But that's not automatically given with the Lord of Harrenhal title by itself.

2025-09-15 09:50:21 +0000 UTCYes, that's Harrenhal that Arry and Gendry are brought to. Harrenhal is the largest castle in the seven kingdoms and the former seat of the king of the Riverlands and Iron Islands, which were one and the same kingdom in the days of Aegon's Conquest. (Currently the Tullys are lords of the Riverlands and the Greyjoys hold the Iron Islands, but they used to exist together as one kingdom). It was burned by Aegon's dragons during the conquest and is dark and ruinous since. Harrenhal was built far too big, as a tribute to the wealth and prosperity of the Riverlands in the days before Aegon I. It's enormous and would cost far too much to restore and upkeep. It has been used sparingly, often given to this lord or that through the years. Each lord occupies a small fraction of the keep while the rest falls further and further into disrepair. It is said to be cursed. As many of its tenant lords have met their own demises there. Still a formidable holdfast, easily defensible and with claim to rich fertile lands and the city of Harrentown, one of the last true bustling cities before the sparsity of the North. Still, for as great a prize as it is in name, ie, the lord of Harrenhal would instantly be one of the greatest lords in the realm, it acts as more of a curse. It would bankrupt all but the greatest lords just to get Harrenhal back to functional. And in the meantime, it has long been the sight of many grisly atrocities and dark rumors and legends.

2025-09-14 06:07:19 +0000 UTCYour outros always crack me up 😂 You are right about the intro map ALWAYS including King's Landing, Winterfell and The Wall as a minimum, even if the episode does not go to any of them. Also, speaking of the map, Qarth is all the way to the southeast of the continent of Essos - just as a reference for scale - think of Westeros as an inverted British Isles - only imagine the British Isles are the size of South America - then Qarth would be somewhere near the southeast coast of China or maybe Vietnam. I guess that makes the Red Waste the equivalent of the Gobi desert. The point is that Daenerys is SUPER FAR from Westeros now.

2025-09-14 04:02:59 +0000 UTCYou guys were cracking me up this episode! "I prefer the show when he's not in it" at Joffrey! LMAO! Yeah this was confusing. It's been such a long time since I've watched the show and looking at it now I think they made a mistake here? I THINK they're trying to place Renly and his army at Storms End (he was in the Reach in the books). So, Storms End should've appeared on the map in the opening credits but it didn't. And you're right, they showed us the Wall and Pyke and we didn't go to either place. But the reason why I think we're at Storms End here is because as you learned in the history and lore, Storms End was built with the help of Bran the Builder. All the other castles that Lord Baratheon built kept getting destroyed by the gods until Bran came to help. Whatever magic Brandon infused in Storms End that helped it withstand the gods, also worked against The Red Woman. Ser Davos had to smuggle her in past the curtain wall of Storms End. He had to get her on the INSIDE of that magical barrier for her magic shadow baby to get in. So, the map lied to us this episode lol. Harrenhall is fun! And whoever is Lord of Harrenhall is actually Lord of the River lands. Currently House Tully are acting lords of the River lands because Harrenhall has no lord. Tywin is just borrowing it as a war camp location. So, now you know why Littlefinger was so upset that Tyrion was lying about giving him Harrenhall. Having that title would put him above even Catlyn's family in rank. All the River lords would have to answer to him.

2025-09-14 04:00:58 +0000 UTCI interpreted Littlefingers comment about the gate possibly being open to Renly as more of an offer than information. Like "Hey, if we work together, I could make taking the city easier on you."

2025-09-14 03:36:17 +0000 UTCOf all the horrific shit we see in this show... brutal injuries, heinous torture, weird fucked up sex shit... I don't think anything in this show makes me cringe as hard as Littlefinger trying to grab Catelyn in the tent.

2025-09-14 03:35:03 +0000 UTC-- Westerlands: Robb surprises some Lannister forces in a nighttime attack and then makes googly eyes at a pretty combat medic across an impromptu, unmedicated field amputation (as you do, you know). His bannerman that you saw talking to him is Roose Bolton. House Bolton is a northern house whose sigil is a flayed man, which is why he made that comment to Robb about how a 'flayed man has no secrets' and Robb came back at him and said that Ned had outlawed flaying in the North and then Roose said, "We're not in the North." It seems like maybe he's trying to say that now that Ned's gone, he doesn't really have to listen to the rules anymore. -- King's Landing: Joffrey is up to his usual activities, abusing his fiance Sansa until Tyrion makes him stop, and then abusing some prostitutes to then get back at Tyrion. I feel like none of his family really truly understands just how sadistic he is yet ... Also that one kingsguard Ser Meryn looks like he enjoys hitting teenage girls wayyyyy too much. And Ros, Ros, Ros ... Girl, I do believe you should have stayed in the North. King's Landing is not all it's cracked up to be. -- Stormlands: Littlefinger shows up at Renly's camp and tries to talk shit to Margaery about her marraige, but she's absolutely not having it and shuts him up :) He also talks to Catelyn and its one of the only times we see his mask slip when he's trying to tell her his true feelings but he is once again shut down. He also, of course, lies and says that he has both Arya and Sansa to trade for Jamie. Finally, Renly and Stannis have their last meeting before they are to meet in battle and Stannis tells Renly if he will surrender, he can be on the small council again and be Stannis' heir until he has a son, but of course Renly's army is much larger and he thinks this idea is ridiculous. Catelyn looks at the two of them like a couple of cranky toddlers who need a nap and she's not far off in her assessment. -- Harrenhal: Harrenhal was destroyed by dragon fire a looong time ago and has since basically just been a ruin of a castle that has a reputation for being haunted. Some of the Lannister forces had planned to meet up there, including the ones who were helping the Gold Cloaks in finding the rest of Robert's bastards (the last of which being Gendry) which is why they brought the rest of the people that were going to the Wall that they captured back to Harrenhal afterwards. The Mountain and some others are torturing some of the people they have captured for information, basically because they don't have anything better to do until Tywin and the rest of the forces arrive with more instructions. Meanwhile, Arya is adding people to her "list" - remember the story that Yoren told her about Willem, the boy that killed his brother? He said he would repeat Willem's name over and over "like a prayer" until he finally got the chance to kill him. Arya is making her list of people she wants to kill and repeating it over and over and over. "Joffrey ... Cersei ... Ilyn Payne ... The Hound" All people who have wronged her. Remember, the Hound killed the butcher's boy, her friend who was practicing fencing with her. Ilyn Payne is the executioner who killed Ned (the one who's tongue was cut out by the Mad King). Everytime someone does something worthy in her eyes, they get added to the list - "Polliver ... The Mountain" etc. Gendry gets picked to be the next one tortured and luckily for him, Tywin arrives just in the nick of time. He puts the prisoners to work instead and chooses Arya to be his personal cup bearer. -- Qarth: Dany, Jorah, the dragons, and what's left of the Khalasar arrive outside the gates and are received by "The Thirteen" who are like the city council. The main mouthpiece (who won't give his name) only seems interested in seeing the dragons, and when Dany doesn't want to show him right away, he says they won't be allowed in. One member of the Thirteen, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, takes responsibility for them and they are allowed in - I'm just glad they are finally going to get some dang water to drink!!! Everytime I look at them in that God forsaken desert they look so parched it makes me feel like my whole body is shriveling up! -- King's Landing: My notes on this section say, "Tyrion absolutely minfucks poor Lancel," which I think is a great description of this scene. Whenever you go back and watch it (during editing or whenever) listen to the music playing when Tyrion is saying his lines, "No one need know ... as long as you keep faith with me. I want to know what Cersei's doing ..." That musical cue is the Lannister family song, "The Rains of Castamere," another of my favorite peices of music in the show after the Winterfell theme. -- Stormlands: One of my favorite character quirks in the show is how Stannis is obsessed with correcting people's grammar. I meant to bring it up in the first episode of the season when he was giving everyone hell over that letter that he kept making corrections to every other word. In the scene with Davos on the boat, he makes reference to the fact that Davos used to be a smuggler and also that he wears his knuckle bones in a bag around his neck for luck. Both of these things have been brought up before; remember when the pirate Davos was trying to recruit said, "A man chops off your fingers and you fall in love with him." Basically, Stannis cut off Davos' fingers as punishment for being a smuggler, but it was a fair punishment, so he doesn't hold it against him. And its four less fingernails to clean (excuse me, I mean four fewer fingernails - sorry Stannis.) And finally, the red woman gives birth to Stannis's son ... What? Was there something else?

2025-09-14 02:19:41 +0000 UTC"There's no cure for being a cunt." One of my favorite quotes in the entire show lol. The field nurse in the beginning of the episode is played by Oona Chaplin. She is Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter I believe.
