1 week animation loop challenge - day 5 and 6
Added 2025-07-26 05:27:33 +0000 UTCheya there! Didn't update everyone yesterday because i felt that there wasn't a whole lot to show at the time and also i had stayed up till 3am workin on this thang and was far too sleepy to continue. So tonight im doin a double update which ended up making the most sense to do
As always with projects that I work with like this, i can never ever estimate the amount of time this all takes properly. The graffiti idea ended up adding 2 days to this project but they were extremelyyy worth it in my opinion and is probably my favorite part of the animation
Started yesterday by continuing to design the digital graffiti. I started work a bit late since i went for a morning run but felt really sick afterwards bcs i pushed myself a bit too much and i had to take some time to recover. But yeah i kept working on it, began work on the left wall and added tags from people i contacted and filled the gaps with random bullshit i was coming up with or things youd see written in diy venue bathrooms. I then kept on printing out what i had put together and cut it out and slid it against the wall in the set to check for what was visible and what gaps were still left that needed to be filled in order to sell the illusion that the whole stall is covered in graffiti and not just what's in camera view

Eventually, after a very long process I completed it to a point that I was really happy with ^w^ it felt really good to have that part finished, it took me most of yesterday to do so apart from making dinner for me and my bf and etc chores. It was finally time to start putting inking everything in
So. How the fuck was I gonna transfer these very precisely placed designs and also preserve all the subtle details and shapes thats signature to everyone's tags? I couldn't just use a lightboard through the painted walls because the paint was too opaque to shine a light through. And if i tried something else like charcoal transfer it wouldn't work since the lines were too fine and it would get messy really easily. So i said fuck it and decided to redo all the walls (and flooring actually) and use a different method. I wasn't very happy with the colors i chose anyway so it wasn't a big deal.
I opted for watercolor! While still not perfect for seeing through when colored, using a thin enough layer of paint allowed you to see all the lines of the printed out version with a lightboard. And so i got to painting. I initially was being lazy and tried painting on some cardstock paper and tried flattening it while it dried. But the paper started disintegrating from being wet and it made it tough to write one with marker. So i dug through some boxes and found my water color pad that my bf gifted to me during our first Christmas together when we were long distance. I hadn't touched it yet cuz it was really nice paper but ive since then learned to not be so precious with material haha. I painted on the pages and i really really liked how the water colors made it look weathered especially with the texture of the paper. And it was easy to start inking in all the designs. It was a tedious process tho. I was being very careful with each design trying not to fuck it up and i stayed up till 3am and decided to sleep and finish the rest Friday
...
Today i got up and started working very soon after. I keep having a lot of nightmares recenly and that had me in a weird mood this morning but i started feeling better soon as i got close to finishing all the graffitis. I also printed out all the sticker designs onto cardstock and cut them out and carefully colored them all in with brush tipped art markers. I really love how these came out, especially when glued onto the walls

And then just like that the walls were done! And I also repainted the floor and added trim to the walls and glued it all on and i couldn't be happier with how it looked. I also finally painted the radiator and toilet to look all old and like the paint was chipping away. And i also spontaneously added graffiti to the toilet and i think that added so much

With the set all ready for the most part, i started working on the frames tonight. And I'm still working on them, in fact I barely made a dent. For 2 hours ive just been tracing lines. Never ever underestimate how long it takes to do this lol. Its so easy to haha but the minutes add up quickly. I think im gonna try for a few more tonight and then go to sleep finally. And with it being day 6 and day 7 is tomorrow, im sorry to say that i don't believe i will be completing this project in just a week. Im gonna do as much as i can tomorrow morning, but me and my boyfriend are gonna go out and go play some board games in a park and go watch a free play theyre doing there that evening ^^ should be pretty fun!!
With what I have to do left, im gonna aim for Monday now
Thanks and goodnight everyone! I might do another double update Sunday night instead of tomorrow
