Forget Rem also doesn’t know Subaru all that much lol they are both insanely obsessive of who they are in love with. Which yeah it’s ok you can’t help who you love but they do it in such a unhealthy way. So yeah it’s ironic they hate on Subaru but Rem is just like him lol this is coming from someone who loves Rem more personally even after season 2 lol I love her cuz she’s the embodiment of unrequited love it’s realistic and relatable. No matter how hard you try or how much of your heart you pour out on someone if they don’t feel the same way there’s nothing you can do… that’s just life…. Both have attachment issues he attached to Emilia cuz she’s the 1st person that gave him attention. He’s a hikikimori (NEET) which has been implied a lot and revealed in this episode so it’s natural for him to be the way he is with Emilia. As for Rem hes the 1st person to ever move her so yeah she’s also naturally going to get extremely attached to him. I get why ppl don’t initially understand all this tho and go straight to hating subaru tho especially if you’ve never been like him growing up.

The reason she isn't fleshed out this season is because Subaru refused to see her as anything more than prize. Season 2 is when we see more of Emilia, and she starts becoming a character of her own. You forget, Rem killed him in cold blood multiple times, that’s not easily forgotten. And Rem's obsession with Subaru is a bit unhealthy for her, as she's made him a pillar the same way she did her sister. I don't dislike Rem, but I don't think this would have been healthy for either of them at this point in time

For better or worse, she hasn't played a huge role beyond the insignia and royal selection episodes... and yet, Subaru obsesses over her due to their chance encounter in the alley on his first day. Meanwhile, we've learned a LOT about Rem. We know her and Ram's backstory, her feelings for Subaru, the faith she puts in him, and the sacrifices she's willing to make to protect him (like fighting off a giant ass whale).

2024-03-06 03:45:37 +0000 UTCI get where you are coming from. I felt the same when I first watched the episode forever ago. I realized later that part of this feeling was because Rem and her relationship with Subaru has been so upfront and center in the the current story arc and the one previous to it at the mansion. Meanwhile, Emilia hasn't really had a chance to shine as a romance interest up to this point with her biggest moments with Subaru being the lap pillow in the previous story arc which was more out of concern for Subaru than romance and then their huge fight in the capital where she left and basically ended their relationship because she felt like being around her was causing Subaru to go too far for her and harm himself, which scared her. All of which makes the value of her relationship with Subaru seem less than the value of Rem's relationship with Subaru even though it isn't.

2024-03-04 22:28:09 +0000 UTCI was initially mad at Subaru about that as well, but then I remembered that when you think about it, what Subaru was to Rem, Emilia was to Subaru when he first arrived here. He was in a world he had no idea about, knew nothing, and was on the verge of being killed by a random group of street thugs when she took time out of what turned out to be an INCREDIBLY important task to save him and make sure that he was okay. So in that way, I can understand why even after everything that's happened to this point, he still has such strong feelings for Emilia.

2024-03-04 16:49:07 +0000 UTCFor why Puck doesn't appear at night until Emilia dies, he's bound by the rules of his contract. Once she dies, he no longer is. As for Rem, a lot of people miss the point of this scene. Rem isn't confessing to Subaru to get a confession in return. She is saying she loves him unconditionally. She is well aware that Subaru loves Emilia. Subaru saying that he loves Emilia is him both being honest with Rem since she was honest with him even after seeing him at his lowest and him accepting what she asked for. To be the Subaru that Rem loves, her hero. And that is also the Subaru that loves Emilia. What didn't happen here, is that Subaru rejects Rem. At no point did Subaru reject her feelings. Quite the opposite. He embraced her feelings and the hope that he would be the person she knows he can be. From this point on, both Emilia and Rem hold a place in Subaru's heart above all others. Also, if you are really into Subaru and Rem, the author did write a what if story where the pair actually did run off to Kararagi and lived that life Rem spoke about when she said she had really thought about running away with him.

This episode is nearly 20 minutes of nothing but dialog, but I was glued to the screen the whole time.
