And I’m seeing it in some other countries, at least the news we get from places like Japan that have a growing nationalist movement as well.

That would take multiple paragraphs to try to explain. I just think it has EVERYTHING I crave in an anime. Well, besides any yuri romance or dragons.

The imo most obvious parallel so far being, that the order to create the 86th district to round up all the non-Albans, mirrors Roosevelt's Order 9066 that authorized the incarceration of Japanese Americans in internment camps

2024-03-31 21:41:49 +0000 UTCThe Republic also weirdly feels French with their own whole "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" version of their flag, while it is the Empire's Legion / rogue AI that has the WWII-typical German names...which I imagine is there cause it sounds badass to foreign ears, but Eintagsfliege just doesn't have the same ring to it as a native speaker lol

2024-03-31 19:44:07 +0000 UTCAnju, the girl with the silver hair with the 86 is there because to be a "human", you must have silver hair and silver eyes. Anju's eyes are blue, meaning she is of mixed blood and therefore isn't "human" in the eyes of the Republic of San Magnolia.

Don’t worry, you’re not the only reactor I’ve seen that didn’t connect the dots at first but that’s the fun part about the anime too, I suppose.
