Respectfully disagree. This is a Top 5 OP all time to me. The ‘08 is very good, but at least a few spots lower.

I already adored it, but seeing as Mother’s Basement did a “What’s in an OP” video showcasing how OP1 and OP2 of the original both tell the whole story of their respective seasons, without any prewatch spoilers. So, as you watch each season, you understand the OPs more and more, making them hold a deeper meaning and take on the mythos of Lawrence and Holo. Yeah, I’m kind of a fan.

2025-07-06 06:51:40 +0000 UTCMy one real complaint about this remake was changing the first ally-turned-antagonist from Chloe, an anime changed character, back to the novel version Yarei. The impact of Chloe’s betrayal and the overall depiction of her connection with Lawrence was far better written and more impactful. Yarei feels barely used, like a forgettable background character, whereas Chloe, whom you see tackle Yarei in this version, held a closer, more personal interaction with Lawrence. The change for the original anime was quite brilliant, as I ended up remembering Chloe throughout the entire series, for her impact on the plot.

Didn't quite understand the merchant stuff, but the romance was amazing enough to make Holo and Lawrence one of the legendary couples in my list, and the song contrast of the serious dramatic OP and very cute chibii ED was very memorable. I still remember the lyrics to both even after 16 years later

This remake is starting in a great way so old fans can only pray that this time everything will be properly adapted from the novels and until the end xD Although the amount of tiny easter eggs and the start, already points to the people behind the show loving the original and the source material too. Happy to see you react to this show, hope you enjoy it :)

2024-04-03 13:29:08 +0000 UTCYes, this is also a romance. A VERY slow burn romance but a romance nontheless. But its an important part of the overall story. This is sheduled for 25 episodes in its first season and should get us through the first 4-5 light novels ( of 18). I hope they will adapt the whole story this time, the first show from 2008 changed a lot and even skipped an entire volume of the novel. And then ended around book 6. Also for the character ages, Kraft is 25 at the beginning of the story and Holo, welll Holo is more of a Frieren age situation with her being a harvest "god". So this romance is basically Frieren/Himmel 2.0 just with a much less oblivious ancient character. :P
