I believe running with a concussion could do more damage so I think that’s why he didn’t run or I suppose that’s what they changed for the anime, If I remember correctly in the novel and anime he was running.

And I especially like that they clearly explain that this wasn't THE plan it was A plan, it just happened to be the one that worked. The person planning this scheme didn't mastermind everything perfectly, they just set a bunch of different things into motion and probably most of them didn't actually work but a few did, which helped make it seem like a random series of accidents.
