I love that even tho we had Lakan's Tragic Backstory©️ dumped on us last ep, Faroh still instinctually says "shut up" when he gets huffy about Jinshi putting his hand on her shoulder. Old habits die hard lol

2024-05-03 20:24:16 +0000 UTCThe anime actually cut the scene where Lakan meets maomao, on one of the days he went to the verdigris house to find her, he was kicked out as usual (it actually looks like they got a bit violent with him) its then that he sees a young girl picking herbs next to him who's face he can see. he doesn't think much of it but then he sees his uncle and the child's crooked pinky and puts it together, this even traumatises maomao because Lakan, in desperation to meet his daughter, starts laughing and crying uncontrollably and attempting to grab maomao even while being restrained by onlookers who see the commotion and think hes some creep trying to take a child its a very sad scene and im not sure why it was cut, it happens in chapter 37 of the manga if youd like to read it

2024-05-03 15:03:55 +0000 UTCAs to why Maomao dislikes Lakan, from my understanding its a combination of 1) Him being kind of creepy and being kind of obsessed with getting her back (like she said, that face crawling towards you saying "call me papa" isn't very endearing) 2) Her being jealous of him because her adoptive father always praised him 3) Her not liking his apathy towards other people. Maomao (for all she tries to deny it) will always go out of her way to help people, while he's too lazy (or maybe just depressed, but that's a whole other can of worms) to intervene even if he could help

2024-05-03 14:07:11 +0000 UTCIt so tragic because Lakan and Fengxian's situation basically boils down to them not being open with each other. If Fengxian had told Lakan what she intended to do (even just in the last letter he got from her before leaving), everything would have been fine. And if the Madam had been truthful from the start, Lakan and Fengxian could have at least had years together rather than the short amount of time they probably have left.

This season was an adaption of volume 1+2 of the light novel and their relationship does not really significantly develop deeper before volume 9 or so. So at least 2-3 more seasons of the anime if they keep the adaption pace. Its a VERY slow burn. That does not mean that there wont be a ton of cute and great moments between those two in the next season. :P

In the anime its not as clear but in the manga and the light novel its made pretty clear that Mei Mei is in love with Lakan and admired him since her days as a serving girl for MaoMao´s mother. She spoke the truth that she would not mind at all if he would choose her but she also knew that the only woman he ever loved was Fengxian and thus "sacrifices" her love to reuinite Lakan with Fengxian, even going against the brothel mother wishes who told Lakan that Fengxian was dead.
