Oh, I never said they weren't bad. But they ARE massively different. This (the Federacy) is a society where the intolerance is in the hearts of some people, but not on the systematic level. That is because intolerance isn't in the hearts of those who get the final say on the dealings in the systematic level (Namely, Ernst. And the people have the good judgement to put someone like him at the top.). While in the Republic, the intolerance is both in people's hearts and in the systematic level. In the republic, the intolerance in their hearts will be supported systematically, leading to isolation and a future that will eternally be intolerant. But within the Federacy, the intolerance in the heart will not be supported systematically, making it so that isolation is not enforced. As long as people can keep interacting, the intolerance will gradually wear down, and they will understand that they are not all that different. In the Federacy, it is easy to see a discrimination free future. Considering that the Federacy was initially arguably the most discriminatory Empire for declaring war on all other nations before being overthrown, and now has someone who is as morally just and having strong ideals as Ernst Zimmerman leading the nation, I would say that the federacy is on a steep upward slope. Meanwhile the Republic is either a downward slope or a stagnating line on the bottom. (If you haven't figured it out yet, Ernst is my Fav character along with Shin).

2024-05-24 17:09:29 +0000 UTCwhilst i agree as a whole theyre not as bad, to say theyre massively different is wrong. sure there are multiple amazing people there, but there are also many who are intolerant and do not understand. Sure the kids had a choice to leave the battlefield, but trauma doesn't work this way. When you're so comfortable being on the battlefield, literally and metaphorically, the calm does not feel real. its dissociative. I think the inability to empathize and understand and help or actually be kind during that shows a lack of empathy and humanity. They not be the same type of bad, but theyre bad nonetheless.

2024-05-23 19:36:13 +0000 UTCYou can skip the "Special Visual Commentary Episode". It's just an older episode where the cast talks about voicing the characters and whatnot. As for Lena, she is a spoiler. What I can say, is what this episode was attempting to imply with the scenes with Lena and Shin and how the other 86 were trying not to bring Lena up around Shin. Shin stated in the episode that he can hear the Legion all the way to the Republic. So he is very aware that the Republic was overrun by Legion and that the last line of the Republic's defense was breached and overrun. He also hears any new voices that get added to the Legion around the recent Republic invasion. I don't believe I need to tell you what all this tells Shin about the fate of the Republic of San Magnolia.

2024-05-23 05:47:14 +0000 UTCSaying the federacy is worse than the Republic is just wrong. The 86 are always given an opportunity to refuse or quit in the federacy. There are assholes at every level, but there are also those who oppose the assholes at each of those levels, not to mention the top (Ernst Zimmerman) is one of those who oppose the assholes. And even for the assholes, the fact that "No one will miss them" is considered a secondary benefit, the primary being that they're simply the most competent for the mission. Also, the federacy will be providing support for them, trying to do everything that they can to keep them alive. The guy who told them "Nobody here wants you to die" was not being a hypocrite, and choosing his words carefully. It was true that nobody there explicitly wanted them to die, like the republic did. The assholes among them just didn't care much if they died. Even after the assholes had logically justified the suicide mission by saying that only they can accomplish it, the ones who oppose them are still able to throw their weight and allow the 86 to refuse the mission. Not to mention, there are federacy members too in their squad who will be accompanying them in said suicide mission. And finally, even the assholes' disdain towards the 86 isn't because of their birth or race, but rather because of their unnerving mannerisms, which is still bad, but not as bad as "Because they don't have silver eyes and hair".

2024-05-23 01:58:41 +0000 UTCHumans chase oblivion in strange ways, even the best of us. The 86 are totally aware of what they're doing, and they're aware that it's a product of their experiences but when they were given a more peaceful life they were unhappy. It's a theme in a lot of war stories, "the soldier who goes home and feels displaced". You can't save someone from the flames if they don't want to be saved, unfortunately. Zimmerman has shown he is genuinely and STAUNCHLY against them throwing their lives away, but if he forced them to stay off the battlefield he'd betray his own ideals of valuing their agency.

2024-05-22 19:53:35 +0000 UTCIt’s a shit situation but they did have the opportunity to live a normal life. Not justifying the Federacy but their choice makes sense as the 86 have the most experience when it comes to Legion territory. I also wouldn’t say they’re as worse as the Republic. Least here the 86 have the backing of 3 countries instead of being sent on their own. But it’s not like the 86 don’t have their own faults. One problem being they despise pity. A toxic trait they developed from their time in the 86th district, fighting for their pride, leading to alienating them from others like the Federacy. Where the latter would look at this mission as impossible, the former look at it as another day which leads to one of the reasonings for the animosity against them. And to clarify Nina’s drawing, it’s a headless Reaper on top of a pile of corpses.

2024-05-22 19:52:50 +0000 UTCi disagree whole heartedly. To hide behind the guise of being better than the republic and saying one thing to the 86 crew about how this isn't because theyre 86, whilst in the same breath wanting them to be the ones to go because theyd be the least missed is abhorrent. Saying you're better than the republic while doing the same thing as them is gross.

2024-05-22 18:57:47 +0000 UTCI feel you’re being far too harsh on the Federacy military leadership. It’s also a large nation with many different military officers with different opinions and conflicting battle plans. They’re also stuck in a war for survival where one misstep means everyone gets destroyed by unfeeling robots.
