Him using his clout in the educational system to force the school to perform an investigation, get apologies and confessions, and have the administration draft a strongly-worded apology letter and state it verbally to her, is basically him spending all his connections, months of work, and reputation to have them do our cultural equivalent of groveling to her. His first plan was to compromise to gain a political advantage, basically guaranteeing her a spot in a good school to stay quiet. When he saw how much it hurt her when he didn't take her side, however, he started pulling out every stop to correct that mistake. Unfortunately, that's not really what she needed from him anymore. she needed his support in her new dream - and we see him learning that - in spite of the understandable frustration he must have felt from her not appreciating his efforts - as soon as the next morning. He's perhaps learning to learn. I don't envy parents of teenage girls lol.
