You can't possibly think she looks more like Jinshi than Ag-Duo does, but she raised Jinshi so she really is his mom. Maybe just look at it like he has 2 moms . The head Lady in Waiting is just doing her job there with Maomao. Maomao even respected her for doing it. She is just good at her job. I yhink the previous Emporer's mom definitely abused him. Weather it was Vernal, physical, sexual, or all of the above, idk.

Without giving out too much, let's say it's accustomed to wealthy / high status Chinese women in that period not to nurse their own kid; instead, another woman who could lactate will feed the mother's kid. We generally refer them as the kid's "milk mom". To answer CH's question, Anshi did not nurse the current emperor. The "milk mom" who fed the current emperor happens to be Ah Duo's biological mom; hence they share the same milk, and therefore they're "milk siblings".

Especially since Gyokuyou is a foreigner and not everyone in the country is okay with that, she’s aware that Gyokuyou in particular could have more enemies than the other concubines, so she’s a bit overprotective. Not to say she distrusts the Empress Dowager, I’m just saying she cares very much for Lady Gyokuyou and that might have her act a little nuts even to those she trusts, like Maomao.

There are actually 2 empresses involved: Empress Dowager Anshi (mother of the current Emperor), and, when the subtitle said simply "empress" and not "empress dowager", it actually refers to the previous emperor's mother. These details are required before jumping into the next episode, otherwise it'd be very confusing.
