I think I've got a softer view of Dietfried, though I think a lot of that comes from the novels. There's a bit more exploring how he ran into Violet, and how she essentially murdered a bunch of his men, some of whom were friends. The main reason he gave her to Gilbert in the first place is because he was terrified of her.
