I don’t think the Evil Eye caused all those deaths after he was sacrificed because his own curse is fuelled by a hatred of humanity which he didn’t have before becoming what we see. I believe what happened was the worm continued to influence those parents to suicide and the Evil Eye turned to hatred because it it meant the suffering he endured at the hands of the Kito family was completely for nothing. I think his idea of his role as a sacrifice would be to finally save the village from the worm but to the Kito family, he was JUST ANOTHER ONE and thus their filthy, inhuman ritual wasn’t meant to stop the worm but perpetuate this vile status quo.
