There are no brakes on this rollercoaster ride. Enjoy. The explanation for "how?" is usually "F-you! That's how!" but in a way that actually makes sense in-universe. You just gotta wait. Amazing characters, gorgeous animation, and fantastic story; this series is worth the hype. Good catch on analyzing Kamina's little panic attack there, literally facing his own mortality and then resolving "not today." The fact that it was his dad's skull, just adds to the meaning for Kamina and overall symbolism there. Yoko gets a lot of fanservice between the creative camera angles and the animated bouncing, but it's usually played for the ridiculousness of it, while also developing her as a fantastic character in her own right. She's not simply the hot girl they gave a gun to to justify keeping her in scenes, she's the experienced fighter who happens to look good while doing it. If you can laugh off the animation, you'll discover a layered and interesting character underneath.
