ahhh the way theyre all working together to improve ugh i love them so much

One thing I really like about Haikyuu is that it shows that changing for the better is a long and hard process that requires introspection and persistence. Effectively, the issues that Hinata and Kageyama have right now are the exact same issues that they've always had. While Kageyama's drive to be the best has made him an incredibly skilled setter, it also made him very self centred so he thought of himself as the most important member of the team and the only one that made the team work. I remember that you had some issues with the way that his middle school teammates reacted to him, however the way he is treating Hinata is the same thing that he did to Kindaichi and Kunimi only it was way worse back then. You previously said that they weren't commmunicating with him well enough but I would argue that Kageyama is the worst communicator in the series. He's trying to get better at that now but he wasn't back then. If you rewatch episodes 1 and 4, Kageyama panics about how to beat the block and comes to the conclusion that they need to attack faster. His teammates can't hear his reasoning for it because he didn't actually say it, so all they hear is him shouting aggressively at them "Faster!". Then when he tosses so quickly that it was impossible to spike, Kindaichi points out that there's no point in making a toss that they can't hit. Kageyama's answer to that is to once again scream aggressively at him "Move Faster! Jump higher! Match my tosses if you want to win!". Communication is a two way street. Why should Kindaichi keep trying to communicate with Kageyama when all he gets back is a guy shoving all the blame onto him and basically telling him he's shit (Kindaichi is good enough to be a starter in his first year at Seijoh which is a national level team) and to be as good as him? Also, it's not like this came out of the blue, they've been playing together for years and only at the final tournament did they decide that they'd had enough. I remember you mentioning that the only time you played volleyball, the people were really nice and understanding. What if instead of that they had berated you every time you made a mistake and shouted non-constructive criticism at you like "play better!"? I imagine you'd hate those people and never want to play volleyball again, which would be entirely fair. This all leads to these episodes where it shows that Kageyama needs to relinquish some control to the spikers so that they can bring out their best. Hinata's issue is, much like him, pretty simple. He runs purely on his base instincts and while this means that he has an incredible hunger to improve, it also gives him tunnel vision so he only does stuff that he wants to do and misses some very important things. So far, the team has been enabling him by using him as a blunt instrument and just letting him do whatever feels best. The first thing that Grandpa Ukai teaches him is that he needs to actually understand what he is doing before he can go about improving. Once he starts thinking about what he is doing, then he will start to understand the game more and that could be a major boon to the team. There are a lot of people that say that there isn't enough time and they are focused on winning so they were right to initially reject his proposal. I've always disagreed with this for a few reasons. To start with, I don't believe that sports in school are all about winning. That should not be all that the coach is focused on. They should also be thinking about what is best for their player's future ambitions within the sport and how they can help them achieve that. Currently, Hinata is completely dependent on Kageyama to be of any use in a volleyball team. It is also true that Hinata needs to level up his basic skills by a lot. So, if I were the coach I would have allowed him to practice this on the condition that he also does some intensive skills training as well. Secondly, it may be a risk, but you don't get better by never trying anything new and they already lost to Seijoh with their current strategy so changing things up might just be the thing they need to make it to nationals.

Hell Yeah!!! Haikyu OST is so GOAT!!!

H

RIGHT

Faroh

No I know, I just feel like a practice match would’ve been the perfect time. Plus they weren’t willing to do it outside of it initially because of the spring tournament so they didn’t wanna waste time- which I don’t agree with still

Faroh

lol I feel like you heavily misunderstood them telling hinata to not try it in the practice matches. They were not wanting him to try anything different on that specific day. They never talked about him getting chances to try in practice or not.

Cdub

i talked about osts before but the one playing at 14:37 is genuinely one of the best pieces of music ever created
