You're right. But I feel like more often than not, espescially in newer animes, they give characters (villains) a "sad backstory". And while Bleach does that too, I feel like a fair amount of the villains just have "backstory". They are where they are and do what they do because of their own flaws or beliefs, and not because someone else wronged them. So the viewer doesn't really feel too sorry for them. Which I actually really like. So it's kinda understandable why they were wondering if they were supposed to feel bad lol

2025-10-14 23:50:53 +0000 UTCI dont think Nnoitoria's backstory was meant to make anyone feel bad or sorry for him. After all, his actions were really just influenced by his own savagery. However, it does explain his outlook on life and why hes so salty against Nel who saw him as weaker and pitiful. In some ways he wanted her respect even if he was weaker. That he would die to an opponent whos stronger than him. But Nel left him alive each time, which only contributed to his hatred and insecurity.
