I joined Discord...now what?

I've had a lot of people asking me to join Discord, I'm not really familiar with it or how it works, but I joined and created a server. Is it just a chatroom? If so, it's live....I guess. I'll try to be active on it, but it's all new to me. :D
Any feedback/suggestions of what to do with it, would be appreciated.
