[Feedback Needed] Regarding Ao3

So I got notice late yesterday from archiveofourown.org that by posting the little patron thanks I do before each chapter of my work, I'm in violation of their TOS. To be fair, I didn't read it, but rarely do I read a TOS on a site unless the site itself is sketchy. Ao3 has given me the option of removing the thanks and patreon link from each chapter or risk being banned/having everything hidden.

Thanking you all is quite literally the least I can do for your support, and I said you would get said thanks on all my written work, so I'm reluctant to edit it all out.

Honestly, I post to Ao3 as a bit of an afterthought. Only Borne of Caution and Jolly Cooperation are posted there, and the audience is extremely small. I was thinking of just forgoing Ao3 from here on out and keeping to FF, RR, and SB. Before I make such a decision, though, I want to consult all of you first. What do you think of dropping Ao3 and why? Should I post to a different site afterward if dropped so we have 4 options again?

Let me know below, and if you have concerns you'd rather not make public, PM me. We have 6 days to decide before Ao3 moves forward without my input.

I say keep posting to Ao3 just for that little bit more exposure it gives - your other places you post have the thanks, and anything's better than nothing.

Purple Floof

Supported because I wanted to support ya, not for thanks. If you need to take it away, I wouldn't have a problem.

NurseBold

reading through the TOS atm any section quoted to you?

Brad Johnston

It seems like most people here don't care, but a few really enjoy Ao3's layout and options. With that in mind, I'm going to see if Ao3 will agree to a counter offer where I remove the Patreon link but keep the thanks.

I mean, took me 2 or 3 months to even notice my username was misspelled, so I honestly don't care about the names. If they don't like you advertising your patreon though, fuck em.

I like Ao3 because the interface is actually usable and they also offer direct download instead of going through 3rd party downloaders. I'm fine having the name removed to keep it.

Unfortunately I read your stories on my ebook reader, Ao3 has a comfy button to download it instantly while other sites don’t like to make the user download it on their device personally, If you could remove the patreon thanks on Ao3 only, it could solve the situation( after all you always misspell my name XD) I’ll hate to wait months to download a new chapter…

I love reading things on Ao3. I would rather not be thanked and keep more works on Ao3.

Zyikic

I'm honestly fine with either, that said, might I suggest the Sufficient Velocity forums to expand your reader base?

Kyle Paradis

While it would be sad to see the AO3 posting go away, if you're not allowed to post patreon link's to it or thanks on it, then you might as well stop using it. I would however, post a message on the chapter, to let AO3 users know why Borne of Caution has stopped updating there.

Siphon Rayzar

I would agree if it wasn't the fact they're asking not just to remove the thanks but also anything relating/promoting his Patreon.

As others have stated, we're supporting you not because we want to be thanked; but because we believe in the work that you are doing. We want to see the story flourish, and become something great. I would say just edit out our names and the link, because even though you have a small audience there, it would still hurt for them to no longer have their preferred reading option. Also, just by letting us know there is an issue with one of the sites and asking our opinion is only reinforcing, at least in my view, of supporting you. So in the end it's up to you, but I say keep it up, and it would be fine editing it out our names on AO3. Also, I do hope things are going well for you, and I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Ao3 isn't letting you say that you have a Patreon? Drop them then.

Honestly, I'm not supporting you to be thanked every chapter ; I do it because you're both a good writer, and seem like a swell guy. So I don't mind either dropping the thanks on Ao3, or dropping Ao3, though if it's the latter maybe write a small note telling where the readers can find your story on other platforms.

I am in favor of this.

Fabhar

I'm supporting what you do because its good. You already thank me by keeping you level of quality.

Thomas dupre

Lmao do what you want, i personally couldn't care less if you thanks me for my support or not.

Thomas dupre

Honestly, I would be fine with you not posting the stories on Ao3. I read most of your stuff on FFN.

Emeraldleafeon

As long as you tell Ao3 readers that you won't be using it any more it's probably fine to stop posting there if most of your audience is elsewhere
