He never gave my mom breaks, which negatively affected her mental health. The stress of never having any help caused her to start resenting us kids. I've sworn to myself that if I ever decide to have kids, I either have to know that 1) I'm completely able to raise them on my own, or 2) I can completely trust my partner to be an equal and joyful partner in parenting.
