you hear a noise that wakes you fully from sleep. your first reaction is to reach over and shake me immediately awake. without hesitation, i get out of bed and do a lap around the house to make sure everything's okay. when i eventually get back to bed, there's no chance you're going back to sleep. between being startled awake and the anxiety of the unknown, you're on edge. you need some way to relax, some way to shut off your brain, something that always exhausts you. you can tell by the expression on my face that i have a very easy solution to this problem, one that doesn't require you to do a thing. just lie back, close your eyes, enjoy, and hopefully fall back asleep afterward.
