Calamity High Res JPEG + Process

High res art file + Phone wallpaper attached.

Starting with the rough linework and building on top of that, figuring out each figure one at a time. Things will probably change along the way but hopefully it'll all end up where it's supposed to!

Last update (Nov 18) All done! I started this over 3 months ago (Sept 12) and after a few changes it's finally gotten to a point where I'm satisfied. As much as I like to throw everything color under the sun at a piece as big as this, I think keeping the purple, blue and orange as the primary colors throughout makes it less of a mess overall. I'm really pleased with how this turned out an hope you all enjoy the process  as well!

(Nov 15) More progress underway. As always the design is constantly changing while keeping some elements from the previous underlying sketch (I liked the top of the face so I kept that). Having more body to this last big character almost makes him seem like a snail with the rest of the design his shell - not completely out of place and leading the rest. The hope is that the brighter design on the right will grab your eye first and then let it meander over to the left.

The colors will most likely change a bit but so far everything is coming together nicely. If you noticed the blue sketchy snake closer to the top right through the past few updates then you can expect some small additions over certain areas once the base is finished.

(Nov 9th). Figured it wouldn't hurt to write down some of my decision making to go along with each update. I find it helps to always have a zoomed out version of the artwork on the navigator tab in Photoshop to see how the whole piece is working. I tend to get bogged down in smaller details and while a section can look well enough on it's own, it my not stand up to scrutiny when viewed amongst the whole piece.

There seemed to be an overwhelming force of blue and purple, which makes send because the design is intended to lighten up as it gets closer to the right of the canvas. Nevertheless, the bright green and blue arms added in the last two updates has helped to add a bit of levity to the otherwise crushing dark colors and has really brought more life to a piece I was beginning to worry had become too muddied with overwrought detail.
