2024-11-19 04:20:49 +0000 UTCEarly in the episode, there was the question "Is this grooming?". The answer is obviously 100% yes, but CSM is actually doing something interesting here. It's not playing it up for comedy or pretending it's a good thing, it fully recognizes that this is a horribly fucked up thing to even think about. Himeno is drunk and struggling with abandonment issues, so she nearly takes advantage of him, while Makima is actively using his sexuality to lead him how she wants. Denji is a kid with little education, few social skills, and a ton of confusing desires. So a recurring theme of the series is the poor guy trying to work through all that, while surrounded by people either too fucked up to realize what they're doing to him or using it against him.
