It could also be that the card was modified in some way. Perhaps Arthur has to learn to repair/remodify the existing master of spells card to be master of magic, in order to complete his set. We've seen how difficult it is to change uncommon and rare cards. It could be a rest of skill, either made by the cards themselves or set in his path, for him to earn the next card/prove he is worthy of it?

Penn said the 5th card which he hadn’t know about was Master of spells, which Penn’s father had secreted away in his card library. He also said his father was able to withstand the influence of the Mind-Singer. BUT Master of magic is the card Arthur’s dad listed in chap 8 book 1, as one of the set of 5 cards. He listed all cards confidently except Master of cards- saying instead that there is usually a ‘special card’ a ‘wild card’ which can magnify the effects of the other cards. (Ie Master of cards.) He called one of the cards master of magic- not spells. I think this is not the set card but a trap in a trap for Arthur. And Penns father has always come across as sus. Rare level really as head of the family? When he has access to legendary cards? And what happened to Penns siblings?

Was it through coercion or was he just trying to save his own skin? Sticking with the idea that they took Combat and likely are giving back to his father who will be under the Singer's control if not full on possession. So the Rowentree family had 3 out of the 5. Possibly 4 with his mother's card before it was traded away. That's kind of nuts. I always figured the Spell card would be another quest to some other kingdom or something.
