My Least Productive Week
Added 2026-01-22 15:00:11 +0000 UTCNormally this is the sort of post readers see right before their favorite story goes on haitus. Life happens, delays pile up, and backlogs run out. Then suddenly, your weekly jolt of escapism vanishes.
Fortunately, that is not happening. I'm not slowing down my posting at all, actually. While my backlog for Bloodstained Blade is running low, I think we will still run through the finish line. I just needed to vent.
This year, my New Year's resolution was to write less. Weird, right? That's pretty much the opposite of the other writers I know, but it's for a good reason, at least it was supposed to be. Rather than let my muse sweep me away to endless page count, I wanted to focus half my time on editing. While many of you love my books, I think we can all agree they need a little clean up; the opening chapters of Death After Death, especially, are three years old now, and could use some tightening.
Unfortunately, the whims of fate decided to listen to the wording of that goal and not the reason for it. As a result, I spent the last week sick as a dog. It's as ill as I've been in two or more years. To make matters worse, I somehow managed to strain my elbow. I have no idea how I managed that; we'll just chalk that one up to getting old.
While I do plan on seeing the doctor about that, I'm looking forward to getting back into the zone writing-wise as well. I've got big plans for the year, and don't want to get derailed before I even have a chance to make progress.
On the bright side, I got my 13th short story sale recently (and my 222nd rejection.) Both are excellent news. While any sale is welcome, I will never get to my goal of 1,000 rejections without being turned away a lot more.
I have no idea when I will launch a new story, though. I have 7ish books I want to edit before I let myself get sidetracked with something new and awesome. I also want to get a map for Death After Death out soon; I've been so sidetracked, I may have to hire someone for that. We will see.
So, nothing new to announce in this post; just letting you know about the less glamorous parts of being a writer. I hope all of you have a great week!

I might. I think I might have a low level SAD thing going on. I'm so much more productive with the sun in the summer than I am in the depths of winter.

2026-01-25 16:48:09 +0000 UTCGet your levels of vit D tested. Low levels had me feeling worse and worse a couple of years back until I figured it out. What you're describing sounds a lot like what it felt like

2026-01-22 15:20:49 +0000 UTCNo worries man, love your work and will be here to support you. I hope you stay healthy, and happen to find time for all of it. Your writing has its own voice many of us came to appreciate even more in this age of AI slop and brainrot writing we see online every day. Some authors use words just to fill up pages, you use them to create something your readers will always remember.
