She smirks, adjusting herself and moving her hair to get a better look at me. “About time you get here, Roe, was beginning to think you ditched me.”
“Scared you’d be dateless?” I question, approaching her. I allow my eyes to once again travel the length of her body, butterflies emerging from their cocoons, and taking flight as I do so.
She snorts, “more like scared there’d be no entertainment.”
“Is that all I am to you?” I tease, leaning in so that I was now hovering over her. She doesn’t answer me. Instead, she loops her arm around my neck and brings me down to her lips. The last time we had kissed on her bike was still fresh in my mind, but this was nothing like that. Whereas that was wild and a tad bit crazed, like two lovers who hadn’t been able to breathe the other in for years, this was calm yet exciting. Patient and endearing. The words left unspoken after a confession, the sheer contentedness of being wrapped in the arms of the person you adored the most. Her lips were soft, almost as if she didn’t wish to ruin her lipstick, which was a possibility. I could easily picture the few choice words Amari would have for her if that was to happen. But there was something else, something about this kiss that I couldn’t place, and part of me didn’t care to.
