2023-06-18 02:22:45 +0000 UTCI admit that the Amanda-backstory lends much more depth to Ripley, but everything else that's added is pretty much redundant. Newt's parents finding the ship weakens the otherwise much more eery reveal when the marines arrive at the colony; the rail-gun scenes are point-blank repetitive and completely ruin the pacing; the "first names" scene just feels awkward and out of place (which is why it got edited out in first place). What makes the theatrical cut so awesome, is the fact that once the marines are dropped from orbit, you literally enter a nail-biting rollercoaster that never allows you to feel safe. Two hours just fly by - and I cannot imagine that the extended version offers that kind of experience for a first-time viewer. But hey-ho, glad you enjoyed it regardless.
