2024-09-04 19:15:26 +0000 UTCBefore it came out, they put up billboards advertising it, but it was a mystery as it just said: GUMP with no picture, nothing else but a date. Inserting Tom Hanks into newsreel footage was groundbreaking at the time. Also the amazing ping-pong playing with him was done by the actors miming hitting a ball, and a ball was added later in FX. F. Gump came out a year before the mainstream internet we use now started up. You're right, it's a contrast some people don't notice, how people questioning some political things are shown having a horrible life, and Forrest stumbles into success while never questioning things. A Hanks movie I think you might enjoy: "Big" ( 1988 ) Long outros are the best, because we get more of Whims. 😉 K.L.

Better times And where would the principle of only casting players in roles who specifically fit the profile of the written character end? Would the casting of Jenny exclude actresses that weren't sexually abused as children, or Lt Dan those actors who aren't wheelchair bound war vets? I hear some gay people claim gay characters should only be played by gay actors and that straight actors are stealing gay roles, or Jews saying gentiles are doing 'Jew face' playing Jewish characters, but don't then follow that idea to its conclusion where vice-versa gay actors wouldn't be able to play straight characters etc...
