It's a Wonderful LIfe (1946) ♦Movie Reaction♦ LONG VERSION!

Did Star Wars borrow from It's A Wonderful Life? Leia - "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope!" Potter - "Shouldn't you be asking Sam Wainwright for help?" Potter is basically saying only Sam can save him now... George - "Oh I can't find him..." Later we see George with clasped hands... He couldn't contact Sam but if he could send a message, maybe a hologram, would he have said "Help me Sam Wainwright, you're my only hope!" 1. Potter clearly indicated the importance of Sam 2. George had an immediate response which means he also was thinking of Sam 3. Sam could not be contacted, how is he unreachable? Was he like holed up in a desert cave or something? 4. Eventually a rag tag group came to help George..., they were a makeshift alliance that came together to rebel against the evil empire of Mister Potter. You could call them a rebel alliance.

Sam's an ass (maybe literally, given his catchphrase...) and definitely a better fit for New York City than Bedford Falls. But at heart he's a stand-up guy; I suspect the movie wants us to know he hasn't forgotten his roots despite his wealth.

Hey I like you just the way you are, including your flair 😊 Great reaction! as always. For fun though I like to mention Sam Wainwright. He's an odd guy and his friends kinda talk bad about him. But he offered George "in on the ground floor" anyway, a chance to make George and Mary rich but they didn't want to and that's okay. Later he teased George about it and George said "Don't rub it in!" and Sam immediately stopped. Could Sam be the nerdy type who people don't want to be associated with and people talk bad about him behind his back, yet even so he shows up always cheerful. Here's the final part. Sam succeeded on his own and he's always trying to look out for George but they run in different circles. He was name-dropped by Potter as the 2nd most powerful person around when he said something like "only Sam can help you now." Possibly those around him are attracted to his money but he understands the importance of real friends and so he always reaches out to George. In the final scene he offers George 3 times more than what's needed and he doesn't even show up to take credit. He sets an example to find good people and to support them. I've seen the movie many times and I started looking closer at each character. The writers are being cautious about how they portray all the roles, even the small ones. For example the husband of the teacher... who punches George. As he was being thrown out he kept insisting to pay the bill for his drink. Martini says "forget the money, you punched my best friend" and then bans him for life!(?) George on the other hand after hearing who it was that punched him nodded and didn't complain. In other shows they poke fun at this in a self-aware but dismissive way saying "It's the inevitable confrontation between men" and there's nothing you can do about it, lol. I digressed there but it was fun 😆

This was a fun reaction. Part of the reason it became such a classic is because it bombed so badly at the box office. The movie came out in 1946, so the initial copyright expired in 1974. The movie was such a flop, the studio didn't bother to renew the copyright when it expired. As a result, TV networks could show it for free, it was aired about a zillion times and became a much-loved holiday classic.... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!

Not as dark (or bloody!) as PRIVATE RYAN, but still extremely dark thematically even though it's literally life-affirming. The vast majority of the runtime is watching a guy get his dreams systematically crushed by fate, even if at the end he seems to accept he was destined for something different. (But hopefully he and Mary eventually got a babysitter and used some of that $25,000 to take a well-deserved trip!) The Hollywood Production Code wouldn't allow them them to spell it out, but you can probably guess what Violet's profession was in that darkest timeline.
