Camcorder Self Portrait BTS

Hellooo legends!

I've switched my account to 18+ and am now sharing my (nsfw) BTS footage from my photo shoots.

I used my Pentax 645 and Ilford DELTA 3200 film. I love Ilford because of the contrast it gives, and how black the blacks are.

I used my air-shutter release cable to take these photos. Sometimes I took a series straight (the film automatically advances), and sometimes I set the self timer so I could spend more time perfecting the poses.

There were moments where I knew, since the shadows would be black, that I could hide the shutter release cable behind me. I would just have to find a way to hide the trigger in my hand. See if you can find the bulb in the photos below!

What I’ll do for prints of these is most likely edit out the shutter release cable to match there just being a shadow in the 3-5th photos above. I don’t mind editing my photos, though I don’t do it much, but those three feel more high-art without the cable shown. The rest of the photos feel justified to keep them in!

Anyway, hope you enjoy the video. Don’t forget to thank everything for their kind service to your artistic creations!

Love,

meredith

Hi Bruno, thanks for your questions here on the page :) Nice to have you here. So when I shoot film, I tend to make a concentrated effort to not edit the framing after the fact, but sometimes I find myself cropping in after I scan the film. It depends on the shot, to be honest. Sometimes the frame wants to be tighter-- as in, it is more "effective" feeling than if I left it wide. I play around with the crop in lightroom to see what I like best, then edit the final photo in Photoshop with the new crop in mind!

This BTS footage is very interesting. It give us many hints about your process. I enjoyed the light, the shadows and the poses you chose. As you wrote before, the camera is taking a wider shot than what you see in the mirror or in the camcorder. If the final analog shot is too wide, can you reframe it as you could easily do with a digital shot?

Jorma!! Welcome back!! So yes, sometimes I use my digital camera to 'preview' the settings and figure out the settings I'd need given the film I'm using. Definitely don't like wasting shots, but tbh with this shutter release, if I screwed it in too tight, it would just take shots randomly!? It was so sensitive, so I definitely lost some frames :( As for poses-- nothing is planned or scripted or what have you. I see the patch of light, I get really excited, I look in a mirror, figure out how I want the camera angled, and go from there!

Wow, it's really cool to see the process in creating those shots! Do you prepare for shooting with film with digital to see how to get the perfect settings? Film is after all a kind of a precious medium not to be wasted. And when you do the poses with the timer, have you planned -even scripted - the poses or do you just go for the feel of the moment?
