(:
I was recently hired to photograph the prolific artists Brian and Jane of the band, FINKEL, once again.
They are releasing their new EP, Priorities, and this shoot was based around their new single, Digging.
I've been doing a little digging
trying to move around ground
We shot at an insane new studio I just found and connected with called Scales Atelier in Lincoln Heights, right at the intersection of five roads.

They told me about their current exploration into their individual priorities-- how they're moving through this topic in their marriage and partnership, careers and friendships.
They often create music projects around a theme, like their EP Backpack of Snacks, which involved wearing colored glasses one at a time and writing a song about each. How cool!
"This EP is the result of our experimentation in color. Back in January of 2018, we decided that we wanted to see how our art would be transformed if we perpetually saw the world in different colors. Using this logic, we each wore various color-lensed glasses from the moment we woke up, the the moment we went to sleep. To create a catalogue of songs to choose from, we both demoed out 1 song per color. Once a song was drafted to a point of completion, we would move on to another color. We did this with 6 different colors: pink, yellow, blue, green, red, and orange. The result - Backpack of Snacks."

For this photo shoot, I booked the studio as I knew I could shoot a variety of angles, giving them not only album art, but artists photos and product photography for the pants Jane drew on that will go on sale later.

I had brought my lights, and we tried some shots with them in different corners. Ultimately, I'm so much more confident with just the sun. The lights were much easier to use on the white cyc, and for behind the scenes images like this one--

I like to give a huge variety of imagery to each client. Music artists need a lot of different things-- banner images for Spotify, artist portraits for interviews and blogs and show announcements, general images for their instagrams and facebooks and other social medias.

Part of our unique agreement involved me mocking up album artworks. I had a lot of fun playing around using the photos as guides for cutting/shaping the image.
Which one(s) are you drawn to?
