Youtube update

Youtube said it was a mistake and put my revenue back.

But I can't say I'm exactly relieved.

The reason I started this Patreon in the first place was to stop having to rely on advert money, but there is only so many things I can release a year so Youtube was always there to provide a small stream of reliable income in the background that just about pays my rent each month.

I'd had already accepted that it's not possible to make a living from Youtube but I still get over 60,000 hits every day on my videos and with that kind of viewership, I should really hope I am getting something in return.

I wouldn't get so bothered if I was just coasting, but I am working 7 days a week to get Salad Fingers 11 done. I'm not sure if I will put it on Youtube right away. I will probably release it for you Patreons exclusively for the first few weeks. Maybe put it optionally on Vimeo On-Demand for anyone who doesn't support me on here.

I've not fully thought this through but nothing is telling me that I should just throw it on Youtube like I do with most of my releases and then watch it rack up less than $160 ad-revenue before being inevitably demonetized for "unsuitable content".

Salad Fingers #11 is looking to be about 12 minutes long at my current estimate. It's not slow or anything, it's just that all my scripts end up being around the 10-12 minute mark these days. In my personal opinion, a 12 minute animated story doesn't really belong in the same place as some vain personal blog, recorded in an afternoon where I show how big my house is, do some makeup tips and then poke a corpse.

I am so fucking pumped for the new Salad Fingers! Is it possible for you to make a moment more magical than the teeth music box from Salad Fingers 10!? I HOPE SO :3 That sucks you can't make a much of a living from being an artist on YouTube. Clearly, Youtube doesn't value originality, intelligence, or creativity... they value cash money!

I ain't leaking my secrets.

You were always my favourite channel, and im sad that you can't regularly make animations. Maybe make a separate channel when you can upload simple videos on, kind of like a normal you tuber. You could show animation processes, animation ideas, just things on the side. Just a suggestion.

Okay but please actually release a makeup tips video

It pains me to know that youtube is singlehandedly recreating the “starving artist”. What used to be a laughing stock of a burning man is now a reality. The lizards got their hands on the only thing that matters anymore as far as spotlights for talent go, and all we the public can do is bicker on about it because Google is a corporation. Moral of the story, history repeats itself because of ignorance of the past. Or blatant disregard of it.

This sort of thing seems to have happened a lot lately. YouTube does something drastic which fucks someone over, the creator complains and they revert it and say "sorry, it was a mistake" (if you're lucky). Do they have so many useless people working for them with such great power to demonetise an entire channel, that when the higher-ups catch wind they rever the change? H3 podcast was taken off the air and given a strike the other day but that was very quickly reverted and apologised for. It seems to be very poorly managed. Sometimes I think they must have people working for them in Torit or Yambio or some other such crisis-striken locale.

YouTube has been a real pain for a lot of people. I'm new to Patreon and created an account just to support David. He's an absolute legend and I'm sorry I didn't do this sooner. Would have gone for a higher tier - but all his sweet sweet art has already gone! Not to worry. God bless you, David, you beautiful bastard.

I noticed that that record label posted salad fingers music on their channel a weak ago

Seriously fuck YouTube and their demonetisation crap. Like you said, your work doesn't even belong there; besides they don't value quality... let alone hard-core art. I saw Adult Swim mentioned here. I am sure they would love to work with you because they really seem to like all kinds of alternative shorts. I also heard AVGN got on Amazon's video service so maybe they would want to get rights to show your work too! Worth asking, right? PS. I'd buy any content you've made no matter the age so printing a compilation disc would be amazing!
