Timelines and Deadlines
Added 2022-02-23 00:30:45 +0000 UTCHello all of our awesome patrons,
I'm quite certain that what you're all looking to hear is that we've set a launch date. However that is not the case. We feel certain we are moving closer to announcing a launch date, but we're not there yet.
The reality is that we're working adults with commitments that take precedent over Minecraft, and the designing and building of a server demands much greater time commitments than running one that is already off the ground. We still firmly believe in a spring launch, as I've said all along, I'm simply just not willing to announce a date until I'm confident we can accomplish all our big tasks before then.
I learned a lot in my time as a CivClassic admin, and I've taken note of a lot of mistakes and learned from failings of CivClassic. We're using this knowledge to build a strong foundation for CivMC so that the administration is better prepared. And so that if any of us become inactive, it will not be such an onerous undertaking for new admins to take our places.
To get on to some more interesting topics, Ahri is generating a proof-of-concept small map for us to explore and use when designing our final configs and balance. This will also enable us to better prepare for the (quite certainly inevitable) future of sharding which may reach CivMC sometime in the future. Diet_Cola has been a tremendous asset in improving the code base, and he is currently helping debug and troubleshoot some of the more pernicious issues that faced CivClassic (server crashes causing loss of data and performance issues both relating to memory usage by CivModCore).
We also have some teasers forthcoming which should whet your appetites before launch.
