This anime brings back memories. Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke were my introduction to the world of Studio Ghibli. For me, Spirited Away was always a bit like a Japanese version of Alice in Wonderland. Probably because the name is similar in German, where the anime is called Chihiros Reise ins Zauberland (Chihiros Journey into the Magical Land). Wonderful reaction ladies.π

2024-09-01 16:05:48 +0000 UTCgood point with the 'one guess' very perceptive. just as a sidenote they are all gods in that 'country', proably centuries old. haku is a river god (albeit here they translated it as spirit), well its a polythesitic paganism, i think so that is probably why they choose spirit instead of god in the translation despite chihiro clearly calling him kami sama (which means god, spirit would be without the honorific sama; albeit i guess this is shintoism, either way, he is a god for all intent and purposes) Its intresting how many stories tie eating food to ghost stories, usually in a way that its a curse and you can not leave anymore after eating it. That was a nice reaction, thank you; happy you liked the movie.

Regarding how you pronounce Ghibli, everyone says itβs differently place. The Japanese pronunciation is jiburi. However, itβs an Italian word so its pronunciation is different. You guys are close enough to the correct pronunciation.
