I thought I was going to have a heart attack. I was laughing harder than Tien actually hahaha. One interesting fact about the making of this film Mel Brooks asked George Lucas for permission to make a Star Wars parody. George Lucas gave Mel Brooks the go ahead on one condition which was to not make any movie merchandise. That’s why we have that scene where Yogurt is showing all the Space Balls merchandise. Tien and Lan you two are awesome! The both of you don’t need to be sorry about anything.

2025-03-08 00:30:45 +0000 UTCI’ve not seen one either. I only know about it from an obscure reference through some forgotten movie and looney tunes I think. Had to piece it together myself, but I don’t blame anyone for not catching it, it’s not easy to get even at the time this came out.

Also George Lucas said the main character couldn't look like Luke or Han, so Mel Brooks made him look like Indiana Jones (another Lucas franchise). He is such a master at this kind of comedy. This was so much fun. I didn't think Tien was going to survive the "combing the desert" joke haha!

2025-03-07 21:35:51 +0000 UTCI'm very suprised that you two, as Family Guy veterans, would be shocked by the humor in Spaceballs.😅 The humor is really silly, but it was the 80s and Mel Brooks is a legend. The joke about the merchandise is not about Disneyland but about Star Wars itself. When George Lucas wanted to make the first Star Wars movie, the studios did not believe that you could make money with a sci-fi movie. In order to make Star Wars, George Lucas waived his fee and received the rights to the merchandise in return. Star Wars became a huge success and George Lucas earned billions with merchandise. Back then, Star Wars was printed on almost everything and sold as merchandise. In the scene with the alien, the actor said "Not again" because it was the same actor as in the movie Alien. By the way, President Skroob and Yogurt are both played by Mel Brooks. That was a hilarious reaction ladies, as always.💜
