I’m from south America and this kind of movies is very personal to me
The end is very good
The true is
It’s was no « new beginning »
It’s was a genocide
Spanish people came to south america and conquer the land and enslave maya or kill them
Very sad but what can we do …. It’s part of the history
Good reaction as usual tho’
👍
Cheers 🍀

Interesting thing, Apocalypse actually means change, the end of something and the start of something new. With that definition there were at least three Apocalypse events in this movie, destruction of the village, the arrival of the Spainish and the family starting anew. When everyone hears the word Apocalypse they think the end of the world. The Aztec's had a lot of gold which wasn't shown here, that played a factor why so many Spainish ships came before they started colonies.

You should react to George of the Jungle. We could use a change of pace after this flick.

These were Aztecs, who believed in Human sacrifice, especially in times of famine to appease the Gods. This movie was set just at the end of Aztec empire (modern day Mexico), which was conquered by the Spanish led by Hernan Cortes along with other allied local tribes (who were enemies of the Aztecs). It is argued by historians that by the time the Spanish arrived the Aztec empire was in serious decline, and this allowed a relatively small force of armed Spanish soldiers with gun powder based weapons & horses to defeat the Aztec.

It was just a 'nameless' Spanish Conquistador at the end with the ships, not Columbus. And this film wasn't entirely historically accurate, for instance, producers said the "Target Practice" scene was filmed as a set up for 'The Chase' and didn't portray any real Mayan practice. So, take that as you will. I still like the film though. 🫡🫡🫡

The Last of the Mohicans (1992) would be a sure thing. Directed by Michael Mann who also directed HEAT (1995) and Collateral (2004) my favorite Tom Cruise role.

As you ladies researched, this takes place in Mexico and probably even further south.
But, it got me thinking if there are any films that depict something similar that takes place in what is now the United States. I really couldn't think of anything that isn't focused on a white person.
I do know before the white people showed up, there were a lot of different tribes in the US. You might have heard names of these tribes like Apache, Cherokee, Navajo, but that is just a few. Many of these tribes still exist and live on Reservations - these reservations are within the United States but the tribes govern themselves and can make and enforce their own laws within the reservation to some degree. It gets complicated, and I'm not quite sure of the specifics.
This was a rough watch, so you ladies should watch something more uplifting...like ROCKY!

At the end that was the Spanish more then likely Hernán, Cortés he made the Aztecs stop doing human sacrifices and contrary to what people think most the Indians were in his side cuz of how brutal the Aztecs were and most Indians actually died from diseases not by Europeans killing them directly

The Mayans or the Aztecs didn't see human sacrifice as "evil" they saw it as noble, in fact records from that time say many people willingly chose to be sacrifices. Cultures from the Olmec cultural family (Aztec, Maya, etc) share similar creation myths. Essentially they believe, that in the beginning that one of their gods sacrificed their own heart to start the Sun, and sacrificing people and burning their hearts was keeping the sun going. So they legitimately thought if they didn't sacrifice people, their world would end.

I'm not a big fan of this movie, I always find it hard to watch.
But you should see it at least once, especially because of the Mayan theme, which isn't dealt with in the cinema that often like it is in this movie.
Like you, I'm glad to live in this day and age. Life isn't always easy these days, but it's much easier than it was back then.😅
Since Lan likes disaster movies and mentioned the Mayan calendar and 2012, I'd like to suggest the movie 2012 with John Cusack as a reaction. It's not the greatest masterpiece, but it's definitely a fun watch.
Otherwise maybe The Day After Tomorrow (2004). I also enjoy watching that movie again and again and it would definitely be a fun reaction.
That was, as always, a great reaction from you Angels.💜
